This was my husband and my first cruise, therefore we had little, if any expectations. We arrived in Miami a day early and stayed at The Shelbourne Hotel in South Beach. Wasn't impressed with beaches (looked like just NJ), but hotel was nice, many great restaurants to eat at, and great shopping. Warning: arrange for a shuttle..three taxi rides were over $100. Boarding ship went smoothly for us, we arrived early and were in our room within 45 mints. Other couples told us we could have arrived as early as 11am although all of RCCL's literature specifically says not to come early. Our cabin was on third deck. It was small, but very efficient for our needs, as who spends time in their cabin? Cabin was very clean, bed was comfortable and maid service was excellent! Food on ship varied. Sit down dinners were good, not of a better restaurant quality, but okay. I agree with other reviewers in that seating times were difficult and the couple at our table kissed and whispered all through dinner. Would have preferred a 7:00 or 7:30 seating (or any time!) by ourselves. Windjammer cafe's buffets varied as well. Breakfast was good, lunch not as good, and dinner was not good. We heard complaints about the pizza place and deli. Excursions that we went on were varied too. We tried the dolphin swim..in Nassau... for the ten or so minutes we were actually close to the dolphins was very exciting, but the whole excursion was almost 4 1/2 hours long and most of that time was spent waiting, I would skip it, not worth the $250. Key west was the best excursion and port, did a pub crawl and had a great time with Zam (sp?)as our guide. Try the tour at Hemingway's House, very interesting! Try to book excursions in advance, heard many complaints about some excursions selling out fast disappointing: the pool area! Very, very crowded, way too congested, a little dirty and FREEZING cold!!!Kids running and screaming and drinks spilling everywhere. disembarkment:I agree with other reviewers... they threw us off ship before 8am!!!!! Barely had time to wake up and we were asked to leave cabin, had to wait in airport for many hours high point: shows! saw several and loved all, nightlife on ship for everybody and lots to see and do, comedian was outstanding lesson learned: weather was not what I thought it would be, much colder (couldn't swim in pool or at beaches). I'll head much further south next February.
