Our family of four joined the Norwegian Pearl for our first cruise experience...and it did not disappoint! It's hard to believe that two weeks ago we were walking the decks while sailing in the Caribbean...it feels like a distant dream!

To backtrack...we had a long day traveling to Fort Lauderdale. It was longer for my husband and our teenage boys as they had three flights whereas I had two. I arrived about an hour and a half before the rest of the family and was delighted to walk out of the airport terminal and experience very pleasant balmy temperatures after the recent cold spell in California. There was a little drama when my husband and sons arrived as their luggage did not arrive with them...so we ended up catching our cab to Embassy Suites with just my suitcase, at 1.30am! However, by the next morning after a good breakfast and concluding that the luggage would not arrive before sailing, we took the bull by the horns and were determined to not get uptight. We bought swimsuits and t-shirts and headed off to Miami for boarding at 11:30am. We were a lot earlier than many, so boarding was easy and uncomplicated. The first thing we did was to go and book dinner in La Cucina for that night and Mambos the following evening (a tip we'd read about) - then we went off to the Garden Cafe for lunch. This is a buffet - which offers - a cold soup, a couple of hot soups, salads, fruit, pastas, pizza, a roast and vegetables, Indian food, hamburger/hot dogs and accompaniments,a great ice cream variety, and desserts (which in the buffet were not great- very bland and tasteless).

After lunch, we headed to our cabins...which were fabulous (on deck 10). We enjoyed a balcony cabin while our boys had an inside cabin directly opposite. The cabins were spotless...the bed was spacious and comfortable with great linens and a duvet. There was a flat screen TV, cupboard space (all done in cherry wood) and a fantastic bathroom with excellent water pressure in the shower, frosted glass screen doors, hooks, white fluffy towels, etc. Our cabins were fantastically cared for twice a day, beds were turned down with chocolates, towel animals, etc. We had an excellent steward - these men and women work so hard - 7 days a week (with a few hours off a day), for ten months of the year! We so enjoyed our balcony and being able to go to bed with the door and drapes open listening to the sea and lapping of waves...what a joy. My husband wished that there was a digital clock next to the bed...it was hard figuring out the time.
