Chose this cruise for short getaway with friends. This was our fourth cruise but our friend's first. In summary it made an excellent introductory cruise. Flew to HOU and used Galveston Limousine for transfers to and from the ship. Embarkation was a breeze. We were onboard by 1:30pm and our luggage was delivered mid afternoon. Ship is 1991 vintage and it shows from its design features, but is clean and well maintained. The Fantasy class ships are not the most asthetically pleasing designs ever afloat, but are functional. Few balcony cabins such as are found on new ships. Cabin was on Rivera deck. Arranged as a single king with the head of the bed not up against the window, which I liked. Decent sized bathroom, with travel toiletries laid out. Cabin steward was very attentive with out being a bother. Dining room waiter Jimmy was great. We were paired with 2 other couples and had good chemistry there. One thing that we noted was that the passengers weren't as rowdy as we might have expected. Everybody was very well mannered. Food wasn't as good as other cruises, but was far better than our experience in October on RCI's Voyager. Great selection, and served by attentive staff. Saw 2 shows and they were less than great. Captain was around the ship and was very approachable. Very nice man. Port of call was Cozumel and was no big thing as we had been there before. We especially liked the day at sea coming and going as it gave us time to unwind. Debarkation of the ship itself was painless. We handled our luggage using self assist.
I'm not sure what the issues were, (we heard several rumors), but clearing customs took almost 2 hours after we left the ship.
We missed our scheduled shuttle but Galveston Limousine stepped in and had us to the airport with no further delays. This isn't the fanciest cruise, but it was excellent value and a great cruise for those who want to try out a cruise for the first time.
