The ship was extraordinary! The biggest in the seven seas right now. The first day at sea (Monday) was sunny and the seas were relatively calm. We arrived in Haiti on Tuesday and took the historical walking tour. Our guide was very informative and helped us understand the rich history of the country and how diverse the culture was. On Wednesday, we arrived in Jamaica and took a taxi to Dunn's River Falls. WOW! Not for the faint of heart! It's quite an incline and the waters are rushing with tremendous force. We had a party of about 20 people that all made and we had to buy the t-shirt that will now let everyone know that the "survived Dunn's River Falls!" Beware of the shops at the top of the falls area. Very pushy sales people that try to intimidate you into buying their wares. Thursday morning we arrive in beautiful Grand Cayman. A few weeks prior to our trip, we went outside of the recommendations of Royal Caribbean and booked an excursion that wasn't on the RC list of "approved" vendors. And man, ARE WE GLAD WE DID! Fat Fish Adventures - www.fatfishadventures.com was the best excursion that we have been on in four cruises - Stingray City/ Sand Bar Wave Runners. Our awesome guide, Peter, met us right at 11am at the Hard Rock Cafe and we proceeded to the launch area to ride the wave runners. We went down a canal and out into the ocean. The sleds we all relatively new and performed just wonderfully. We drove to a beach and then made our way to Sting Ray City, a couple of miles off the coast in the middle of the ocean. The sandbar was about 3-5 ft below the surface, so you could walk freely - with or without a life jacket - as the sting rays swam around you. We were able to feed them and actually hold them. It was awesome!!! They are referred to as "Sea-Kittens", as they love the warmth of humans. They are very gentle and we felt safe for the most part. The Steve Erwin scenario looms in your head, but we never felt in danger. Friday we chilled at Playamia - a resort beach area in Cozumel. Great day of fun in the sun and relaxing. Saturday we were sad that the cruise was almost over, but the crew of the Freedom of the Seas kept the excitement as high as possible with many events, including the Belly-Flop competition in the main pool. There were six rather large guys that competed and we all laughed as they tried for the best water displacement factor. Overall, the cruise was a huge hit. But our favorite memory will be our excursion in Grand Cayman. You just can't beat a private excursion with someone that loves what they do and makes sure that your experience is all that you want it to be.
