Traveled with children

We took our 5 children on this cruise knowing that Celebrity is not necessarily geared to kids, but it fit our schedule best. What they lacked in activities for the younger set, they made up for in service and class! We got to the cruise terminal in Miami about 11:30 am and it took all of 5 minutes to check-in, barely enough time to finish the lemonade they were serving. We had inside staterooms in the new section of the Sports Deck (top). This is a perfect location: 3 doors from one flight of stairs (elevator) down to the Pool/Buffet deck, an 10 doors from the opening on our deck that overlooks the pool. Very convenient to pop out and catch some rays or the sunset. The only thing better would be a suite - next time, without the kids! Even though the ship is 12 years old and doesn't have all the newer bells and whistles, I thought it was in great shape. The dining was excellent, both the breakfast/lunch buffets and the Main Dining Room at night. We particularly liked the pizza and pasta bar, the poolside grill and the ice cream/sorbet bar. The choices changed each day with a wide variety of everything and beautiful presentation. Eating breakfast on the open back deck was fun, but that's were the smokers seemed to congregate. Entertainment was high quality and classy also. Quite a difference from Carnival. One example of Celebrity setting itself apart from the rest: In Grand Cayman there were 7 ships in port that day, which meant many tender lines in the afternoon. Celebrity was the only cruise line with officers and crew members telling people where to go even if they weren't Celebrity passengers. But wait! ... they were also handing out drinks for us and "cold towels!" We used Moby Dick Tours for our Stingray City trip and they were great. An online reservation will save you $5. In Ocho Rios we did Dunn's River Falls on our own, $15 entrance fee. Bring your own aqua shoes or you can rent them for $5. A guide isn't necessary and they go too fast for taking many pictures anyway. Save the tip money, and enjoy the climb at your leisure. If you can find a local driver to take you to "History Beach", you won't be disappointed. 30 foot waterfall cascading into the ocean, trees branching over the water, snorkeling, etc. No tourists will be there because it's a "locals" beach. Just expect to smell the wacky weed burning. Leave a tip at the top with "History" next to the One Love Trail sign. Overall, Celebrity is in a whole different category than the Carnival's, Royal Carib's, and NCL's of the cruise world. If you're looking for a more intimate (only 1700 passengers), classy ship with impeccable service, Celebrity's Century is a great choice.
