Chartered flight with Thomsons to Santo Domingo - good flight, lots of legroom but not impressed with food. Indeed we were informed that RCI would not upgrade the meal although we had paid for Premium seats. We were also told there was no twilight check-in so we could not pre-book our seats the night before, yet we met fellow cruisers who had been able to do this. We were not at all impressed as I could not be seated next to my wife and on the return flight she was seated on the opposite side of the 'plane. We complained but to no avail - this is NOT the treatment we expected having paid £400 to upgrade our seats - we never dreamt we would be separated. Coaches were waiting to take us straight to the Ship which avoided airport delays. Check in for us was O.K. although not what we have come to expect from RCI. Quite shocked to find no hand sanitizers on this ship (they were readily available in September in the Med.). Service & food on our 1st week were excellent. The second week was rather a disaster as we had over half the ship filled with hispanics. They caused mayhem in the Windjammer, around the pool and public areas, could not get into the hot tubs for unruly children. The staff seemed unable to cope with them. I witnessed some of them tasting sauces etc., from their fingers - blowing their noses in their napkins, and taking copious amounts of food from the Windjammer (which is NOT allowed) but no-one stopped them! Each morning on the 2nd week we had difficulty in finding a table and when we did, they had left crumbs etc., on not only the table but the seats. We have cruised the Caribbean many times with RCI but we will never sail from Santo Domingo again. The itinerary was fabulous (why we chose this cruise) and most of the staff (although they seem to have cut back) were hardworking & friendly.
