We just got back from the beautiful Norwegian Gem Jan. 16-26, 2008. Last month I was on the transatlantic from Barcelona to Boston but this was DH Bob's first cruise on this brand new ship. I couldn't wait to see his reaction. By way of introduction, we are platinum latitudes on NCL. We've also sailed on Windstar, Celebrity and Cunard and by far prefer freestyle when we cruise.

Like me, Bob found the bright whimsical design fun and colorful. We loved watching the football playoffs on the crystal atrium's huge video screen and thank Melania for the wonderful table. The pool area has thick padded comfortable chaise lounges and under freestyle 2.0 will have new luxurious towels. Bliss Lounge is the ultimate for a game of bowling or chic theme parties like "White Nights" with drinks served in ice glasses. Spinnaker Lounge offers funky furniture to curl up in and read or watch the world go by through its vast windows.

Embarkation was smooth and by 1:00 pm or so we were heading to the Grand Pacific for lunch. Ironically enough we drew the one dud waiter of the cruise. No welcome aboard, no hellos and the bare minimum for service. Happy to say that the rest of the cruise we received the warmest service all over the ship and our thanks go out to the fabulous crew who always had a hello and how are you no matter where you went.
