After two long, but incredible days in Amsterdam, and a night in Copenhagen, my grandparents and I were more than ready for our voyage on the ms Rotterdam. The embarkation was defiantly a long process, but seemed organized, and the staff was more than friendly. After just cruising on the Freedom of the Seas, the largest ship afloat, walking into the Rotterdam was a little disappointing, but still beautiful. We had an ocean view room, and found it to be spacious enough for the three of us. PLENTY of closet space. Walking around the ship the first day, and finding out that the average age group was 55-60, I prepared my self for a long 12 days. To my amazement though, the Rotterdam had one of the best children and teen program of all the ships I've been on. Being 13 I was in the teen program. Our main room to hang out in was called "the loft." It was a really cool hang out, with plasma TV's, magazine racks, a jukebox, and more than enough comfortable seating. Not only did we teens have the loft, oh no, we also had "the oasis." It was the topmost deck of the cruise, and I could not have thought of a more perfect place to spend the night with my friends. It had a huge rock cave with a waterfall, mood lighting, music playing, and metal palm trees surrounding us. The youngsters had a room of their own complete with a slide, and big red couch. The counselors for the teen program were so much fun, and full of personality, making the cruise so much more enjoyable. Being vegetarian, it's hard for me to talk too much about the food, but they had a separate menu for vegetarians, giving me sooo much more of a variety. The Dining room had a very "interesting" atmosphere, and the servers were friendly. The main buffet had a lot of choices. They always had new kinds of pastas, meats, and everyday 3 new paninis, and wraps at the sandwich bar. For desert they had many cakes and pastries, and a free, ice cream bar, served to you by a worker. Also, by the pool they always had a buffet in case you missed lunch while at a port of call. Here they had everything from nachos to cheeseburgers. While on the cruise my grandma surprised me with a half hour facial. They immediately gave me a bath gown to change into, and a while I filled out my application asking me every question possible about my skin, there was a small fruit buffet to enjoy. I had to wait about 20 minutes before the women came to do my facial, but they had a relaxing room overlooking the water with padded lounge chairs and soft music to wait in. The whole 30 minute facial thing, was a little deceiving, because she only worked on my face for about 7 minutes, and then had me "rest" for the remaining 20. Once she came back in the room after my long "rest," I then had to listen to her whole sales pitch on all the products the spa offered. I thought that was horrible for the price they make you pay. The ports of call were Estonia (one of the most beautiful countries I've been to), St. Petersburg, Stockholm, Helsinki, Germany, and Denmark. I didn't go on any of the excursions, but I heard good things about them. The 2 days in St. Petersburg seemed perfect, and if there's one thing to do there, it's visiting Peterhof. Overall the Rotterdam was a very good ship, and an awesome vacation. I would defiantly recommend it for families of all ages.
