Sail Date: Jan 2008

My DP (dear partner) and I recently returned from the January 3, 4-night sailing aboard the Celebrity Century to Key West and Cozumel. Because we have noticed that many of the reviews appear to be written by unsophisticated, picky and/or difficult passengers hell-bent on complaining, we decided to write a review that relates to the rest of us: folks happy to be on vacation and who love cruising. Here is our review...We are a couple in our mid-30s having sailed 3 other times, this being our first on Celebrity and our first inside cabin.Embarkation: Could not have been easier. We arrived at 12 noon. From taxi to stateroom was less than 15 minutes. Luggage was delivered before 3p.m.Stateroom: Pleasantly surprised with the size, design and storage options. You could easily store clothing for a 14-day cruise. We used less than half of the available drawers and shelves. We loved the flat-screen television, the complimentary umbrella and robes and the well-designed bathroom.Public Space: This recent refurbishment is classic and timeless... no neon, no purple.... think traditional brass, glass and polished wood fixtures and furnishings. Although the ship was completely full, it never appeared crowded. High marks from us on the public restrooms: they were immaculately clean and were stocked with real hand towels.Pool/Deck: Fine. No complaints. Can become busy on sea days, but we had no trouble finding chairs. Pool bar service was friendly, helpful and unobtrusive.Lounges: We loved Martini Bar! The martini selection is huge, the martini glasses are beautiful and the server, Consuela is the greatest! Hemisphere lounge was fun late at night and the daytime views are amazing. Rendezvous bar is a good place for pre-dinner drinks. We never visited Crystal room, Michael's club or Cova Cafe.Restaurants: We did not eat dinner in the main dining room. We enjoy freestyle cruising and are not keen on dining with six other strangers or wearing tuxedos while on vacation. If you enjoy that aspect of traditional cruising, the Grand Dining Room is beautiful and we experienced great service at lunch time. We enjoyed Casual Dining Boulevard very much. They put out white tablecloths and flowers on the tables of a small section of the Islands Cafe. The menu is small, but delicious and the service is gracious. Well worth the suggested $2.00 tip per person, which we tripled. While we're on the subject of Islands Cafe, let us remark that it is the best buffet on any ship we've sailed. Breakfast selections were plentiful. Lunch was creative and the service was very good. We loved having ice tea, lemonade and fruit punch always available. Aquaspa cafe is a little gem. We thoroughly enjoyed lunch there. The heart healthy (albeit limited) buffet was very tasty and the setting and view is serene. Although this ship does not have midnight buffets, the midnight gourmet bites were a tasty treat as assorted canapEs were passed on silver trays throughout the ship. We are saving the best for last! Murano's is the finest alternative dining menu we have ever experienced. So much so, we went twice! The room is small and beautiful and the harpist added an elegant touch. This is TRADITIONAL fine dining. Think lobster bisque, tableside Caesar salad, Dover sole, Steak Diane and chocolate soufflE. Head waiter, Mario and his gracious staff complete this truly fine dining experience. Well worth the $30 per person fee.  Wine will raise that total considerably.Casino: Fine, but a little outdated. We are not accustomed to collecting quarters in a bucket from the limited selection of slot machines. Table games were fine and packed between 10p.m. and midnight.Spa: We had a spa treatment and acupuncture. The spa is very serene and the staff is most courteous. We loved the fact that all treatment rooms had a floor-to-ceiling view of the ocean.Disembarkation: As easy as embarkation. From holding lounge to taxi was 20 minutes. Needless to say we loved this ship, but have suggestions which we communicated via the survey. Staterooms need a clock. Without sunlight and a visible clock it is impossible to know the hour of the day. The internet connection needs to be upgraded. On other ships (Caribbean Princess) the internet lounge was very active and the connection was great. The Century's internet was scarcely utilized because the connection was dreadfully slow. We could not even print our airline boarding passes the day before disembarkation. We enjoyed the Century so much we're already booked for the same cruise in January '09.  Complainers are complainers, for the rest of us, this ship is first class.
