This was RCCL Holiday Cruise. All in all, your trip is what you make it BUT...next time i will get on a plane and fly to florida to cruise because the time you spend in the cold weather isn't worth it. although i'm not fond of flying, it beats the cold weather and rough seas. The ship had many, many children on it. The 8-12 year olds were the worst. they roamed the elevators day and night and every time i got on an elevator all the buttons would be pushed. it was ridiculous. some of us decorated our door for the holiday and at night the kids would come and either break the decorations and leave the pieces on the floor or they would steal them. where were their parents? oh that's right, they were on vacation. if i had behaved like these kids i would have been asked to leave at the next port. they sell you a card for adult soda for $87 but the staff doesn't want to go out of their way to get it and you will get it when someone in your area orders an alcoholic drink. it isn't worth it. there were no sanitizing stations anywhere and in the dining room i observed the waiter at the next table constantly blowing his nose and then go on to get food and serve it. i am so thankful he wasn't my waiter because i could not stand that. this was a holiday cruise yet someone at our table had to ask on christmas eve for the pianist in the dining room to play christmas carols. he said he couldn't do it unless someone asked for it! when did rudolph the red nosed reindeer become a christian song and politically incorrect? let's have some common sense please. we paid at least double for this holiday cruise and except for some decorations and 1 hour of caroling there was nothing christmassy about it. new years eve was lovely. the website promised holiday cookie decorating and other holiday events. when did they have these? while i slept? i observed people reserving lounge chairs in the sun and out of the sun for later. yet, when i got up to go in the pool for 10 minutes my stuff was moved when i came back. there are signs that up that say royal caribbean expressly prohibits the reserving of lounge chairs. where is anyone to enforce that? on our way home there was an emergency medical evacuation so we had to turn around and go 5 hours out of our way for a 10 hour total deviation. this meant we go caught in a wild storm. these are things you can't plan for and i do hope that woman was okay. but rccl could have done a little more for the people who were put out and had to make other reservations to get home. we had to pay 50 cents per minute on the internet which was so slow i could have walked my message there faster. there was a blind woman traveling alone on our ship. can you believe she went on an excursion - thru the ship - in puerto rico and she dilly dallied somewhere and they left her. one bright spot - in dominica we took a private tour which was an atv ride in the rain forest through high riders. (highriders@cwdom.dm) we have arranged other private excursions through the years and sometimes they didn't even show to pick us up but melanie at high riders assured us they would and it was excellent. their equipment is in great shape and they provided everything we needed to go riding with her husband and son as our guides. it was beautiful. disembarkation? ha! express walkoff was supposed to be conducted in groups, however, there was no one to enforce that only group 1 or whichever would be in the elevators at that time. the elevator only went to the 2nd floor and you had to carry all your luggage down a flight of stairs. and the 2nd floor was mobbed with people of all groups. then of course, since we were hours late, people were arriving as we were departing. it was a mess.
