So, this was my first cruise with my girlfriend, who has been on many cruises. She prefers RCI to the other cruise lines. As an R.N., I was paranoid about Norovirus (yes, I know - there's nothing that I can do about it, and I can pick it up anywhere) so I drove her crazy buying little bottles of hand sanitizer that I insisted that we keep everywhere. LOL!

She had a travel agent book this entire cruise, and looking back, I think that I would have done things differently. As I write the review, I'll mention what I would have done differently. First off, I would have flown into Fort Lauderdale. It's worth the extra money to only be 7 minutes from Port Everglades. We flew into Miami, and were greeted by 2 very nice RCI representatives who would take us to Port Everglades. They had a Smarte Carte for our luggage because we had to walk to the Air Canada terminal to pick up some Canadian neighbors. We boarded the bus (it's like a coach), had a very funny driver (Lovell, aka "Morgan Freeman") and sat back for the 35 minute drive to the port. Getting through security at Port Everglades was easy, and getting our Sea Passes and being registered was easy. I was surprised, actually. You can tell, because I have an almost psychotic smile on my face in the Welcome Aboard picture. We then boarded the ship. Our room was ready, and we met our cabin steward, Roque (very sweet). We had brought shorts and tee shirts in backpacks so we changed and walked around the ship and then ate lunch in the Windjammer while a really great reggae band played. People complained a lot about the Windjammer, but I thought that it was pretty decent for buffet food. I don't know what people expect when you need to feed 2000 plus people. We went back to our room, and our luggage was there (yay!) and took naps. Our room was a really nice ocean stateroom on the third deck - fine for the two of us. Woke up for the muster drill, I was sweating in the life jacket. I have a neurological disorder, so I had a tough time with the flight, so we decided to skip our 6:00 dinner (note to self, book dinner later) so that I could get some more sleep and we went to Chops. Wow. For $40, we had AWESOME dinners with awesome service.

Our next day was in Coco Cay, and it started out with breakfast in the dining room with a fabulous Filipino waiter. But we are at a table with senior citizens who didn't talk to us the entire time, and we felt a bit weird. We ate quickly and got off the ship and Coco Cay was really a lot of fun. We snorkeled almost the entire cay, swam, floated on beach mats, hung out in hammocks, explored the island and had a yummy BBQ lunch. Speaking of eating lunch, kudos to RCI for putting up hand sanitizers on the island, and for having WASH YOUR HANDS signs in every bathroom, and mentioning "seasonal viruses" and how to prevent them in every issue of the Compass.
