I was looking forward to this cruise, although I had cruised the Eastern Caribbean a number of times before. Embarkation, despite the crowds of people, was efficiently done and we were on the ship in no time at all. Our cabin attendant, Neville, was very accommodating; our luggage was delivered on time and our wait staff (table 501) were very nice. The ship, although big, was easy to navigate and had as many activities as one could every want. I was very impressed with the cleanup service. The ship was kept very clean throughout and you would often see cleaning crews wiping up tables, etc. During our first sea day we went to the Meet & MIngle, which was scheduled at 10:15 in the morning and wasn't like other M&Ms I have attended. The activities director was very nice but the meeting coordinator didn't encourage those in attendance (not very many) to mingle and she quickly raffled off a mouse and the event was over. During my last M&Ms we had our picture taken and were encouraged to get to know each other.

Our first port of call was San Juan and we had booked a tour through the cruise line of Old San Juan and the Bacardi Distillery. The tour was very interesting; my only regret was that we didn't have more time at the Distillery since I would have liked to see more of it and heard from others who only took that tour that they had a much more extensive picture of the place. Nonetheless, we enjoyed the tour. In St. Thomas, we opted to take a ferry over to St. John and enjoyed the day there very much. This is an island I had never been to and so I was anxious to see it. It is truly beautiful and a nice place to visit. The beaches are magnificent. In St. Maarten, I opted not to go into town since I had been there so many times before and so I stayed on board ship and enjoyed the relative peace.

Two sea days followed and we were very happy with everything that we attended. We did go to both Portofino's and Chops. Since we went to Portofino's in a group of 12, I think the attention I was told to expect was a bit lacking. The food was good; not great and I was not overly impressed with the restaurant and wouldn't go again. Chops was a nicer experience; more upscale. My only complaints about chops was the onion soup which I think could have been prepared much better and the Caesar salad, which was also not prepared in the way that a real upscale restaurant prepares this dish. On future cruises, I would skip these restaurants and stick with the dining room which was comparable in food.
