GENERAL: I just returned from the Nov 8th Mexican Riviera sailing on the Star. I was the group leader traveling with a group of 100 people, primarily senior citizens. All are past cruisers and have sailed on numerous cruises with other major Cruise Lines. This group travels as a large group at least twice a year. The entire group was booked on NCL's air Sea Program which included airport transfers. With the exception of a few couples who opted to fly to LAX on their own and meet the group upon arrival, the group arrive on two different flight schedules that arrived LAX about three hours apart. Of the entire group over twenty passengers required wheelchair airport and pier service.

ARRIVAL AND EMBARKATION: Upon arrival at LAX, NCL representatives were not at the gate. The group proceeded to the baggage claim area, and a number of passengers requiring wheelchair assistance had to wait. Although both Delta airlines and NCL had records of who needed wheelchair assistance, each seemed to blame each other as to who was in charge of this service. There was a bit of confusion at baggage claim, and communication with the meet and greet people from NCL was poor. Many of our people were scattered about and were unsure of how to get their transfer bus to the pier. Also since we had to be split up on several busses, NCL would not let us as escorts stay behind with the second group which made some of the people feel abandoned. Once we arrived at the pier the actual embarkation process was quick and friendly. We had arrived at the pier at around 11:00 a.m. Although our staterooms were not ready, we were directed to the buffet, which was a welcome sight after a long flight with only light snacks on the plane.

CABIN: After a nice buffet lunch we were told all staterooms were ready. We found our category BA Balcony cabin to be clean, well appointed and about the same size as similar category cabins on other cruise lines. We were happy to find the balcony door was a sliding one that we could leave open . I also linked the separation between the toilet and shower. The bathrooms seemed nicer than on other cruise ships. I also liked the nautical dEcor in the cabin with ships wheel designs on the bed spreads and carpeting, and the nautical artwork. I would have liked to see more drawer space and cubby areas for clothing and personal items, however there were shelves in the closet, and the closet was well stocked with hangers. The hair dryer was also nicer and more powerful than on other ships we have cruised on.
