To start with this was me and my wife's second cruise. First was last year on Norwegian Dawn. This year we decided to try Rccl. Me and my wife are both in early 50's late 40' category. We flew from NY the day before and stayed at the Intercontinental near the port. We got a great rate thru Hotwire. The hotel was nice and within walking distance of the Bayside market. This was a lively venue at night with bands playing and people out partying. The next day we took a short cab ride to the port. we got there about 12:00 and there was people everywhere and it seemed a little disorganized . We got on one line then another and finally got on the ship about 1:30. Room was ready we had a promenade room on deck 7 . Room was small but laid out good for storage. We met the cabin steward ,Caroline from Jamaica . She was extremely helpful and a real treat, always in good spirits and always working. We then made our way up to the buffet. Food was very plentiful and quality I guess was standard. More
desserts were very good throughout the cruise. Buffet area gets very crowded and found it hard to get a chair at times. We would go to the gym in the morning and then have a late breakfast since we were in the second seating. The ship itself was great, even though there were 4000 people on board it never seemed too crowded.Pool area was nice , the solarium where it is adults only was nice, chairs were taken early so beware. The promenade was great very lively and always something going on.Snacks were good and we had a lite lunch there a few days. The activities and the entertainment staff is way more then the Dawn. The CD was Richard Spacey and he and his staff had the cruise hopping all the time. The party was nonstop and this was all different age groups, nationalities having a great time. Ports of call were O.K. San Juan we got to at 3P.M. Me and my wife walked around for an hour and then went back to ship. very quaint but not much to do for us. St. Thomas was great , we took a cab to Megans Bay , cost about $8 each way per person, and spent the whole day there with other cruise ships. Water was beautiful and scenery great. St. Martin wasn't as nice due to the fact that we took water taxi across pier instead of going to Orient Beach which i heard was great.
The food at dinner was good , some nights great and some nights just O.K. We has a big table and had a great time with table-mates having a lot of laughs and enjoying the dinner together the whole week. Service at dinner was outstanding , our waiter was Remi from India, and I forgot his asst name , but he was great too. If you have a chance to have him as your waiter you will have the most courteous service and enjoyable time at dinner. Overall me and my wife had wonderful time and would encourage those who want a giant ship and all the bells and whistles to try Freedom. Less
