This is my review of our 10/08/07 sailing on the Emerald Princess from Venice to Ft. Lauderdale. We flew to Venice 2 days early via air that we arranged ourselves using FF miles. We were unable to get a non-stop from JFK or ATL to Venice so we did have to make a connection in Amsterdam to a KLM flight . Encountered no problems and all our luggage arrived.

We stayed at the Locanda Orseolo in Venice and were fortunate that the water level was low enough that our water taxi from Marco Polo airport was able to take us directly to the Locanda where we entered through their water window. The hotel is splendidly located 5 minutes from St. Mark's on a small canal. The accommodations are very nice, clean and the staff is wonderful. You are greeted by your first names as if you are friends visiting. Breakfasts, as many have commented before, are wonderful, especially the chocolate banana crepes! The only drawback is that there is no elevator. However, the staff carries you bags up and down so you only have to get yourself up the steps. Our room had a small sitting room and a bedroom both on the canal. It was wonderful to open the windows and hear the gondoliers serenading their passengers.

We took the Doge's Secret Palace tour ( arranged by one of our cruise critic group) and did a lot of wandering around Venice. The day we arrived was rainy but we wandered anyway. The next day was glorious - sunny and mild temps. We decided that instead of taking a gondola ride, since they seemed to be perpetually involved in traffic jams on the small canals, that we would ride the complete route of the Vaporetto. We boarded near St. Mark's heading toward Lido. We bought the 24 hour ticket for 16 euros each and as we got to the Lido end of the line we were able to get seats up front. We took the Vaporetto back the complete length of the Grand Canal and had plenty of time to take lots of pictures since we were on the local. At the Piazzale Roma we had to get off and change to go back, this time on the express that runs outside. Along the way we were able to see the Emerald Princess which was overnighting in Venice with the people from her last cruise. She looked beautiful.
