THIS was just a 4 night coastal cruise from Vancouver to San Diego so as I had a ticket to Vancouver and a friend wanted to come along, I booked this Oct 7-11th jaunt home to San Diego It was Vancouver , Victoria ,then at Sea and San Diego ... I love the Ryndam ;its a cozy ship Clean, -nice public rooms, and lounges pool deck ,theater, etc and have had a Very NICE time on it another year previously for 5 night coastal which we thoroughly enjoyed..IT -..unfortunately all did not go so well this time....our plane connection was stalled in Seattle so Missed seeing Vancouver entirely! Had to hasten to board Ship and boarding & luggage retrieval went Very well...the DINING (was early seating) was ok, not great or good but ok - so we chalked it up to first night and it was worse from there;example all meats even PRIME RIB was over cooked & the Beef Wellington was awful as well with no sauces..fish dry etc..the food was mediocre if not bad ; onion soup was not even the equality I could buy in a can and no cheese melted across top.,desserts disappointing as well..in general the DINING ROOM Wait Staff was UNDER STAFFED UNQUALIFIED NOT PERSONABLE OR KNOWLEDGEABLE about FOOD or Wines.they were 99% Indonesian and Very young inexperienced and did not know about Professional Gracious Service..no one even made suggestions or recommendations or new answers to questions and several times our waiter just RAN through the choices esp the desserts -it was sad to see after coming off the Celebrity last October having the most EXCELLENT food AND Superior Service - it was a MARKED Drop in those areas from the few years prior being on this same ship...we asked SEVERAL times for Coffee and hot tea in the mornings -soon became easier to just go up to Lido Deck and wait on ourselves......very disappointing esp on the last morning nearly NO Attempts were even made to accommodate...WE Were 2.5 hrs LATE getting in to San Diego which was supposedly because of the bad weather the day before but THEN the few Aliens had NOT complied with immigration regs so the whole ship waited extra 2 hrs to get off or de- board right here at the dock because of them!!! so many many people MISSED THEIR FLIGHT CONNECTIONS, CHARTERED CARS and cancelled their other plans with NO reimbursement or sincere apology from Holland America..this should have been handled MUCH Better...and earlier...during the BAD Weather the prior days some Public restrooms were closed so those ill couldn't make it fast enough to find a place to "you know" poor things..noticed the speed decreased as did the pitching when the shows were on ? ENTERTAINMENT was Still EXCELLENT. Other Staff did a good job just the Dining Rooms had the most problems but that does count a lot on a cruise...as fond as I am of the Ryndam would seriously consider twice before take her again never have any similar complaint on most RCC cruises or Celeb or Princess. Wonder how the rest of the cruise on to Mexico went??
