We have just returned home from our 4 night cruise aboard Carnival Ecstasy. Our sailing was on October 25,2007 on a Thursday departure. This is our second cruise with Carnival, with the first being on the Conquest, also out of Galveston. My wife has also sailed once on NCL. Fair or not,I couldn't help but compare everything to our experience on Conquest,so although I may mention some differences in this review ,I will try to stick to reviewing Ecstasy on her own merits. PRE-SAILING: After receiving a call from Carnival the day before about late embarkation due to a delay in arrival from the previous cruise(more about that later) ,we took our time leaving our home and arrived in Galveston about 1pm.,as we are only 2 hours from Galveston including the ferry ride.It was a beautiful day and we walked around Galveston just enjoying not being at work!We had dinner at the Fisherman's Wharf and watched our ship finally arrive in port with all her lights on at 7:10 pm. I cannot tell you how glad we were to see her!

EMBARKATION:Due to what Carnival said was high winds in Progresso,Ecstasy was said to have been held in port until they subsided. Thus the late arrival in Galveston. We learned while on board that this was really not the case, and that continuing mechanical problems was the real cause. Carnival did, however, give a $100.00 per person onboard credit for the delay. Regardless of the reason,we finally got inside the terminal for check-in procedure at 10:00 pm.So the poor folks working at the dock and in the terminal had to do everything usually done in 8 hours in about5.There was a long line of course, and we were in line about 1 1/2 hours. It really wasn't too bad ,although it could have gone quicker with more check-in clerks. There were about 10 working, while there are about 30 or more stations. They did the best they could short handed.By the time we got our sail and sign cards, all the people that had to sit and wait in a holding area had started a line and begun moving to board the ship and we fell in behind them and at least did not have to sit packed like sardines!we were onboard about 12 midnight. The Ecstasy pulled out at 1:30 am. and we were underway!

PORT OF CALL: Our port was also changed to Progresso from Cozumel due to the delay. This didn't really bother us because we have been to Cozumel twice before and planned to stay onboard and relax by the pool anyway.
