Sail Date: Oct 2007

My partner and I recently sailed on the Voyager for 7 nights around the south of France and Italy. This was our second cruise with RCI, having sailed previously on a smaller ship (Serenade of the Seas) around the Caribbean. We again found RCI to be excellent and very much enjoyed our trip. We boarded at Barcelona, having stayed over in a hotel the night before. Barcelona is pleasant enough- the nicest Spanish city Iv ever visited. We stayed by Gaudi's cathedral (5 minutes tube ride from Las Ramblas) and had no problems getting a taxi to the port in the morning. Embarkation was smooth and easy, with plenty of staff welcoming you to the ship and showing you aboard. We had a cabin overlooking the Royal Promenade on deck 8- the room was clean and tidy, with excellent storage space and a great view down over the street. I would highly recommend getting one of these rooms if your budget doesn't stretch to an outside cabin- having some light come in (even if it is fake!) makes such a difference. Our room was kept clean and tidy by you room attendant all week- we were pleased with the standard provided.

FOOD. Our main seating was in the La Boheme restaurant at 9.15. As there were 6 on our table, service could sometimes be slow and most nights we did not leave the dining room much before 11.30. This could be a little wearing at times but we got used to it. One the night when there was only 2 of us on the table, service was much quicker and we were out by 10.15. Food was generally good in the dining room- it could be a little repetitive as the menu only slightly changed most nights. Steak wasn't always to the highest standard either. All in all though, a very pleasant dining experience. Portofino's' was excellent. The service and quality of food was wonderful and it was definitely worth the $20 surcharge. Johnny Rockets was fun, and a bit of a novelty. The food was good (if not a bit greasy) standard 'diner' fare really. The singing waiters were great to watch. Windjammer and Island Grill were good- always a large selection of food available. The plates they give you are HUGE. I thought they were trays initially! One afternoon we were struggled to find a seat but a helpful waiter finally found us a place after 10 minutes of searching. Room service was ok- we only used it once.

ENTERTAINMENT & BARS. Ice show was great to watch, as was the show we caught in the main theatre. Well worth a look. Various parades down the Royal Promenade were also great fun. One of the nicest bars was the High Notes bar which is at the top of the ship. The views are amazing and the staff are lovely. Drinks were excellent (mojitos etc) and the ambiance was fab. The Pig & Whistle was fun- full of us Brits unsurprisingly! Had some great cocktails on the menu. The Vault nightclub is fun after a few cocktails as well! We tried most of the bars and were fairly impressed with them all. Drink prices were good-they are in USD so we just halved them to get the GBP price.
