Traveled with children

My husband and I (early 30's/40's) traveled with 4 older teenage/adult children (ages 15, 16, 18, 20). All had been on a cruise prior; however this cruise was our first all together and the first in quite a while (at least 10 years).

We arrived in Seattle & stayed at the Westin. It was a great location, and we received a good rate on their website $159/night. In general, would not consider this a premiere 4 star property - more likely a good 3 star, but we were only in for one night, traveling with teenagers, it was more than adequate. Since there were 6 of us, we used a taxi van, which was secured when we got to the airport. It cost $35 for one-way to the Westin. We felt that was reasonable; however the driver did ask in no uncertain terms for a large tip (quite rude, but we were tired & were going to give a decent tip anyway). We ultimately paid $ 52 for the fare.... Added note: minimize your eating at the hotel - room service was extremely expensive & hotel restaurant was not worth the money or very tasty. I realize that room service is a premium....but (1 order of quesadillas & 2 cans of pepsi $35 - the quesadillas were only $16 on the menu)

The next morning we walked around Seattle and found a great breakfast place. It was at a hotel, but prices, service and food were very good. Westin secured us a Lincoln SUV to take us to the docks, that fare was $35 - expensive since the airport fare was the same price and the West is only 5 blocks from the ship. Embarking was very easy. Once in the cruise terminal the line moves quite quickly and we boarded the ship between noon and 1pm. Our cabins were ready when we boarded; however it's standard that the rooms are not ready until 4 and luggage by 6p. This was nice that we could go to our rooms, and we received our luggage earlier than expected.
