Liberty of the Seas August 25 - Sept 1/07
We are a family of 4, Mom and Dad ages 42 & 45 and our sons ages 23 & 16. This is our 25th Wedding Anniversary family vacation and our 2nd cruise. However, my oldest son first cruise, he didn't want to go with us for our first cruise 3 years ago (his loss). Our first was on the Mariner of the Seas October 04, we had a great time.
Embarkation Flew from Toronto to Miami, and arrived around 10:00 am, bused to the pier. All arranged by RCL. Approaching the pier we saw the ship and it was beautiful, we arrived at the ship approx 11:20 am and waiting about 15 minutes for our number/color to be called and approx 11:40 am we entered the ship and headed for Windjammer for lunch. Cabins were not ready for guests.
12:50 pm we did go to our cabin which was very nice and roomy (enough for us), great balcony. We drop-off our carry-ons and decided to explore the ship. My oldest son was totally impressed with the size and beauty of the ship. We explored the pools and sports area. The boys wanted to swim however, their swimming shorts were in the luggage and not on their carry-on.
We had to wait for the drill muster and then we did more exploring, we changed our dinner for early seating (instead of late) no problem.
Food We ate at the dinning room (5th floor) every night , 1st seating. Our waiter Kurnia Memed from Indonesia was EXCELLENT and really paid attention to us and always had a few games for us during coffee and dessert. Our assistant waitress was Chwerese Washington and she was also good even thought this was her first month on the job. They always had a smile and were extremely friendly. We had such a good time we decided not to book with the other restaurants. The food was delicious and great presentation. Kurnia would occasionally bring an additional dish for us to try it and it they were always very good.
Breakfast and Lunch We ate at Windjammer for breakfast and lunch. Very large variety, I ordered scrambled eggs/omelets several mornings and they were delicious. Depending on the time of our breakfast we missed several luncheons and just had afternoon tea, we wanted to enjoy our supper (still gained a few pounds).
Ports Labadee - great beach, very expensive water bottles, lunch was alright but the bugs (lots) were very bad. Montego Bay - did some shopping and returned to the ship. Would not venture to far by ourselves (personally liked Ocho Rios better). Grand Cayman - beautiful, great beaches (7-Mile beach), we toured around town and did some shopping. Cozumel - very nice, a bit of sightseeing, shopping and walking. Lots of improvement on the waterfront.
Ship Beautiful, clean, great staff, my oldest son loved the clubs and the casino. The pools a bit crowded and lots of chair saved with pool towels. However, if you go to Deck 12 lots of available chairs and no little kids running around. A couple of times in the Adult Pool section a few young kids came over, were running around and got in the pool and I told them to leave the area this was adults only (where were their parents?). The sports area was very nice, played golf, ping pong, the Flowrider was great - not brave enough to try it but had a great laugh/time watching the other guests that were brave. LOL Shows / Shops We loved the ice show and the other shows were nice. The shops were nice and great jewelry, souvenirs and the spa treatments were very expensive.
Disembarkation Our color was called at 7:40 am and we had to wait for our luggage for about ½ hour. Customs were the usual and we arrived at the airport by 9:30 am. American Airlines line was very long and slow, 1 piece of luggage did not make the flight it was courier to our home the next day arriving by 12:42 on Sunday.
Conclusion Great ship, great vacation and we are ready to do it again (hopefully very soon).
