There was a group of 15 of young professional types from Salt Lake City, Utah, that booked this cruise. After a lot of flight delays we all made it to San Juan a day early. We spent the day in Old San Juan Shopping on Christo Street and hanging out in old town. If you have extra time, definitely book some time in Old San Juan. We walked around, bought a lot of jewelry went to the beach, etc. We had a blast.
EMBARKATION: We dropped our luggage off at the ship without a problem and then went shopping in San Juan for the rest of the day. We did not get back on the ship until around 6 pm. I would recommend this because it makes embarkation a lot easier. We did not have any problems. Our luggage was waiting for us when we got there.
THE SHIP: The Destiny is really ghetto and dilapidated. I was surprised at how run down it was. The carpets are coming up around the edges. The upholstery and carpeting needs serious shampooing. It is in pretty bad condition. Our stateroom was surprisingly good size. The colors are pretty tacky though. It was relatively clean. Our Steward was an absolute darling. I wanted to take Vijay home with me. He never rushed us to get out of our room and always left it clean. Carnival really needs to replace the carpeting in the halls and the rooms. It smells like sewer and is coming up off the floor in places. It is really gross.
