Just returned from the Italy & Croatia cruise. We travelled with our daughter and sil and children ages 5, 3, 19 months. We flew from Birmingham to Rome with BMIBaby , as it was a very late booking we had to arrange our own flights and transfers. This was the only direct flight we could find and it all worked really well. Stayed in Civitavecchia the night before and on the last night of the cruise. Stayed at the Sunbay Park Hotel, very Italian but quite good for our group. Embarkation was very smooth and we were on the ship by 12pm. Went to the Windjammer for lunch and in the room within the hour. Initial impressions of the ship excellent. Very impressive atrium and all the staff very helpful. Our 5 year old grandson loved the kids club and was reluctant to leave the ship for any reason. He liked the activities in the club and was joined by his 3 year old sister occasionally. We loved our room , a midship balcony and our attendant was excellent. Daughter and family were 4 floors below us in 2 adjoining ocean view rooms which worked well for them. I felt the bathroom facility was very adequate with an excellent shower. We were on late sitting for dinner, not ideal for the children though they did very well. This was not RCCL's fault. I felt the food was quite good , but my other half had difficulty several nights finding something she liked. We opted for the Windjammer one night and found it excellent, without doubt the best desert of the cruise was at the Windjammer. The latter I found excellent with good choices at breakfast and lunch and with helpful , hard working staff. Our wait staff were just O.K. , the maitre D was good and he regularly amused the children.

We thought the entertainment was excellent, both the shows and the music throughout the ship.

We got off the ship in Split & Dubrovnik and did our own exploring. We did the Galleon cruise for the children in Dubrovnik - it was a nice trip. Our highlight was undoubtedly arriving in Venice at 06.30 and sailing past St. Marks Square on a glorious sunny morning - our room was on the right side of the ship to enable us to see this from our balcony. We did our own thing in Venice as daughter had lived here for a year and knew her way round. We, along with many others, were disappointed that we could not tender at Portofino , so ended up not visiting. Information was seriously lacking here , so if you had not booked an excursion it was a struggle. We caught the train from Genoa to Santa Margarita but did not have the time to go on to POrtofino as the ship was leaving so early. Santa Margarite was lovely.
