Sail Date: Jul 2007

This cruise was a disappointment. Several aspects of the ship were below average compared to other cruises. We've sailed 3 times with Celebrity, once with Royal Caribbean and 7 years ago on another Alaska cruise with Princess.

The food in the Horizon Court was equal to your average community buffet. Fancy names for foods tried to create the impression that the foods were special but it didn't work. No peanut butter at breakfast or lunch? The American staple. You had to ask specially for peanut butter and someone would go find a large vat and spoon some into a bowl for you. Scrambled eggs never tasted real. Although they were dry, they tasted diluted as if a lot of water had been mixed with eggs. Rolls and breads were dry. On a couple of days, sliced roast beef was 50% marbled fat. Dinners in dining room were unspectacular except for Alaska King Crab and lobster nights. Rolls could have come from your supermarket and never warmed. In addition, with "anytime dining", there's no incentive for wait staff to develop a relationship or even talk except for taking orders. You don't tip your own waiter because you have a different waiter every night. Gratuities are billed at the end of the trip and split among all the staff. Some of the most fun on previous cruises has been talking with waiters.

Entertainment was, in some cases an embarrassment. The production shows, with Princess' own singers and dancers were the quality of a high school production. Vocals and choreography were unbelievably amateurish. No wonder they booked the comedian, Kevin Hughes (who was very good) in the main theater one night and the production show in a lounge. Another guest singer was good as was an illusionist.
