I cruised on the Pearl to Alaska from 8/5-8/12 along with my husband and a large family group. This was my first cruise and my husband and I are both in our late twenties.

EMBARKATION: We flew to Seattle the day before and stayed at the downtown Sheraton. We arrived by a $40 taxi ride at four p.m. Our room wasn't ready when we checked in, but one was available for us at five. We went to dinner at the Flying Fish (http://flyingfishrestaurant.com/) and it was excellent. That evening we explored the city a bit on foot and then turned in for the evening.

Sunday we walked our luggage to the pier. I wouldn't recommend this, but DH decided he wanted to and I couldn't persuade him otherwise. Once we arrived at the pier the process could not have been smoother. It was very quick and we were on the boat within 30 minutes of arriving at the pier. Our room wasn't ready yet, so we headed out to the pool to have lunch at Topsiders and enjoy the view of Seattle. There were already some kids in the pool by that time, and I applaud the parents who had the forethought to dress the young ones in bathing suits under their clothes.
