CHAPTER #1 - Getting to the ship

On July 20, my wife and I boarded Continental flight 2557 at Indianapolis with two friends from Seattle for what we hoped would be a stress free flight and a 10 day cruise on the Star Princess to seven Scandinavian countries. The plane taxied from the gate to the tarmac at the end of the field and stopped. Then the captain made an announcement that was a bad omen of things to come. "Ladies and Gentlemen I am sorry to inform you that a 'ground stop' has been ordered at the Newark airport because of bad weather.
