There is much hype about the Freedom class of ships, however I must point out to you that this ship mirrors that of the Voyager class ships. Not that this is a bad thing, there are several minor differences that permit the distinction. These include H20 zone, additional whirlpools, the flowrider (surf machine) and a few other minor changes including an increase in tonnage. Nothing terribly noticeable to the average vacationer. And whammo... they now get to create a new buzz about a new ship class! Anyway, skepticism aside, the ship itself is without a doubt impressive in size and amenities. Virtually anything you might want on a cruise ship is available aboard Liberty. The casino, where I like to hang out, easily mirrors any of the small Las Vegas or Atlantic City casino floors. There are ample gaming tables available and plenty of slots. Perhaps I have favorable tidings about the casino because I left this trip without making any donations. I will also comment on the casino staff. In the past my experience with Royal Caribbean gaming attendants has been unfavorable. Usually they are cold and unfriendly. However, this boat has a nice staff running the casino. Very warm and conversational. Kudos on the staff selection there.

As for the food, I was simply unimpressed. After sailing aboard Royal Caribbean 5 times I have concluded that the food and food service (which is equally important) is at best a hit or miss proposition. The menus on this cruise were "blah" and very basic in the dining room. I could not seem to get a hot meal in the dining room, with the exception of lobster tail night. Those tails turned out perfectly and I saved up my appetite to put back 6 of those puppies. Cholesterol rants aside, the desserts, all of which mimic a mousse-like, flourless concoction, are simply bad. Picture throwing hot chocolate mix into jello and serving it up with a dollop of whipped cream. This they call "flourless triple chocolate decadence" or words to that effect. Yes... they have the basics: cocoa, sugar, and what-ever else is in there, but this is not cake! In fact its bad... whatever it is. As for the service in the dining room, my waiter got the job done but no more than that. I found it somewhat amusing how much self-congratulation the head waiters give on the last night about how fabulous the wait staff was, but really, if I got my waiter at a local TGI Fridays, I would not have tipped him. There were no personal touches, slow service, and there was no eagerness to please as there has been in the past. Every night I had to ask for a certain type of bread, which I made clear on day 1 that I wanted daily. Everyday thereafter, it was as though I had surprised the assistant waiter with my requests. I guess I expect too much when asking for a "seedless roll" every night.

Sorrento's, the pizza place in the promenade, is very good. Always open and believe it or not, decent food.
