This trip was an 18th birthday present for my daughter. I am in my upper 30's. This was our first cruise.

Pre-Embarkation - We flew out from the west coast the day prior to embarkation. Since we needed to adjust to a three hour time difference, we chose to sleep very little the night before and planned on falling asleep very early that evening in Tampa. Upon arrival at TIA, we were greeted with a severe thunderstorm. Because of the lightening, the ground personnel at TIA were not permitted out on the tarmac to direct planes to the gate. So, we sat on the tarmac for about an hour and a half. That was just Thrilling especially after a 4 hour flight (yes, sarcasm there)! I would highly recommend flying in the day prior to a cruise. It seems that this time of year there were many travel delays due to weather. Not to mention, flying in a day prior allowed us to relax from all of the travel craziness prior to boarding the ship for a week of pure relaxation and fun!!

We chose the Doubletree Hotel near the airport for our pre-cruise stay. Once we had our bags we just called the hotel and they had a shuttle out to pick us up in about 15 minutes. We were checked in quickly and in our room. While at check in we scheduled our shuttle to the port for the next morning. It appears they begin their shuttle service to the port at about 10:30, which was perfect. We scheduled the first one of the day! We chose to just have room service that evening and sleep. There are many hotels in the area and some shopping that the hotel will be glad to take you to. Their shuttle does run on a schedule, so make sure you check that first. Don't expect to just run down and they will take you on a whim. But, the shuttle seemed to be frequent for the evenings; something along the lines of every 20 minutes or so. Fairly reasonable, I thought. The hotel was clean, and well kept. A little aged, but cleanliness is what was important to me. They did a fine job of that. My only frustration was that we had a room that faced the pool and their seemed to be people out there rather late as well as music playing. The hotel was quite busy that weekend with two family reunions as well as all of the pre-cruise guests.
