We set sail on the Majesty of the Seas (Majesty) on Friday July 27 from the Port of Miami, on a three day cruise to Coco Cay and Nassau, returning on Monday July 30th. We are a family of four...two adults, a 17 year old and a 14 year old. We were sailing, however, with 10 other people on a family reunion cruise. It was like moving an army...but worked well! The bottom-line is that we were first time cruisers and had a wonderful time.

Thursday July 26—pre-cruise: Arrived Fort Lauderdale midday Thursday. I recommend Fort Lauderdale (FLL) as an arrival point because the airfare is so much cheaper than Miami (MIA). If you can fly Southwest there it will be very cheap. This, even given the shuttle fees to whatever MIA area hotel you will stay at Thursday night. (Just do the math). Tri-County Express Shuttle (see the actual FLL airport website for a link to Tri-County Shuttle) is VERY efficient and can get you from FLL airport to any MIA area hotel. We stayed at the MIA airport Marriott for convenience sake and a Marriott discount. Hotel was fine, BUT, pool, as of this writing was closed due to construction...a bummer. Recommend that regardless of what pre-cruise hotel you stay at in the MIA area, nail down transportation from that hotel to the Port of Miami when you book your hotel reservation. The Marriott had direct transportation to the Port. Your hotel should too. Also, don't play games. Fly down Thursday and relax. You don't want the stress of possibly missing the ship on Friday due to flight delays!

Friday July 27: Cruise day. Killed some time in the morning. I followed fellow Cruise Critic members advice and got our group to the Port by about 12:15pm. You may get Royal Carib. tickets that say boarding at 2pm. You can board much earlier. We got processed in about 15 minutes and went upstairs to Deck 11 to the Windjammer Cafe to eat lunch a little after 12:30pm. Check all luggage but one simple carry-on, dockside, then take the carry-on with you up to the Windjammer and enjoy your first cruise lunch. The Windjammer is like a food atrium in a mall with lots of food stations to serve yourself. Remember, the Windjammer extends to the bow (another set of food stations) and there is also dining space upstairs...deck 12...where Sorrentos pizza is located along with Johnny Rockets diner. Bags should arrive at your room sometime in the afternoon. Ours arrived in about one hour (1:30pm). Rooms are available by 1pm. This may vary a little.
