Carnival Liberty - Eastern Caribbean

Sail Date: July 2007
Destination: Eastern Caribbean
Embarkation: Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades)

this was our first carnival cruise. we have cruised other lines before. i have to be honest i was worried but after reading reviews etc.. i thought we would try carnival. we flew down the morning of the cruise. we made our own flight arrangements, but did use the transfer through carnival. we arrived at airport about 10:30 and were on the ship having lunch at 12:30. very smooth process.

we had a balcony at the aft of the ship above the lido. it was great and very quiet back there. i may have heard noise above once. it was a very peaceful room. our room steward gede (pronounced goodday) was so nice. he address us in conversation each time he saw us and kept the room really nice and made great towel animals. one being a monkey that hung from the decor.

we had dinner at 6:15 our waitress was great her name beatrix. we ate 5 dinners there. the food was not bad, but not great either. i have to say the service was better than the food. i watched our waitress interact More with the children from the tables next to us, she was amazing with them. if you plan on trying room service don't be too hungry, it took 2 hours for us to get it one night. we did not try it again. the buffet on kido was good for buffet food. my husband enjoyed the fish and chips and the deli. we both thought the pizza was yummy. it was always fresh. we did book our excursions though carnival. we did 3 different beach trip in st thomas, Antigua and tortola. they were all good. one was not better then the other. one thing of interest if it says air conditioned bus. it means natural a/c. not one of the buses had a/c. i have to say the best of tortola was my least favorite. i did not care for the beach area as much as i did on the others. one thing i thought was poor was the lack of carnival staff on the pier to help you find your tour. since the tortola tour meet outside of the pier area and many people did not know this. this is one area i feel they could improve on.

we thought the shows were good. the female dancers are better than the male dancers. it was all good and fun. todd the cruise director was very colorful. he and his staff interacted with the guest more then i have ever seen on other ships. i felt that all the carnival staff that we had contact with really enjoyed there job. they always had a smile and a word. that is so refreshing.

carnival was trying a new debarkatioin process. it went by zones. we did the self assist. we had never done this before. i glad we did. they called our floor at 7:15 and we were on the bus back to the airport at 7:40. we got to the airport early enough to get a flight home earlier. that was great. overall, this was the best non-stressful vacation i have ever had. i feel so refreshed and would book another carnival cruise again and would tell my friends and family to do the same.
