Sail Date: Jul 2007

This was our third cruise on Carnival in two years. We call this the schizophrenic cruise line because you never know what to expect. Our first cruise on the Destiny was a disaster and we almost canceled our second cruise on the Liberty. However the Liberty was comparable to any other "better" cruise line we sailed (e.g. Celebrity). So we were apprehensive about this one and did not what to expect.

We took this trip as an afterthought since we wanted a west coast trip but the kids would only go with us if we took a cruise. So we compromised, 5 days on land followed by a 5 day cruise on the Elation.

EMBARKATION: Arrived at 1:30 and there was only a two minute wait to get the paperwork and even though we were given a number to board there was no wait so we boarded. The longest waiting time was for the picture taking, so that was easy. You enter the ship on the lowest passenger deck, the Riviera deck. Your own your own to find your cabin. Although it was stated you can go to your cabin at 1:30 it was 1:45 and the doors to the hallway to enter the cabins was closed. Then some passenger came along opened the doors and said it's ok to go to your cabins. Amazingly everyone just followed the gentlemen through the doorways and went to their cabins. Who knows how long we would have waited for a Carnival employee to come around and open the doors.
