This was my husbands and my 3rd cruise, both others on Carnival. Other than the fact that Carnival was too much of a "party" for us, it had better food and more pools than the Spirit did. Embarkment went quickly, except having to fill out custom cards while standing in line(couldn't they have sent them in mail?). Ship was well maintained. Decor was more toned down than Carnival line which made ship appear more luxurious. Carnival had more bars in actual rooms which seemed more inviting than Spirit which had bar areas in hallways. Main dining rooms were beautiful.Because we were 2 we always had a seat next to window which was great! Pools-not enough for amt of people. Spirit needs pools in quieter areas with NO MUSIC!! Sometimes ya just don't want to hear either live or taped music. Just want it quiet!! Chair problem is a cruise problem. We knew to wake up early to get them. What a different experience it would be not to have to do it!! Better quality chairs are needed also. Great chairs were on Promenade where we sat a lot. Service-professional and friendly. We heard many complaints about unfriendly staff. We never experienced it. Most waiters were quiet but would engage in chat if we initiated. Some chattier than others. Its a different exp when you don't sit in same place for every meal-harder to develop relationship. But,there are more impt things to us as long as service good. There were times service was slow, but it was better than being rushed which we felt on last dinner. I enjoy sitting in diff part of large dining room to get a diff view all the time. Our stateroom woman said hello. Could of been friendlier. Only 2 towel animals which showed not much effort.
We didn't go on any shore excursions. Took taxis by ourselves. We heard many complaints about excursions. We wish desk on ship would help out with more info even if you aren't buying an onship package! Typical though. Activities-not as many as Carnival which was fine with us. I did enjoy having the chance to have a galley tour and ice sculpture demo. on Carnival.Went to trivia-not enough seats and hard to hear microphone.Enjoyed watching things on TV. Stateroom-very nice. Larger than Carnival. Window wonderful. Shower door better than curtain. Not sure I liked the liquid soap dispenser. Very quiet for us although we heard complaints that people could hear noise of ship being cleaned on outside and kept them up at night. They complained but desk did nothing. Didn't notice ship rocking anymore than on first 2 cruises.
Food-Dining room-wasn't very good overall. Food is SO impt. We learned to order more than 1 appetizer, salad and soup because they were better than main dish. Food well presented though. Breakfast was very good. Buffet-stir fry great!(Line sometimes longer than other times) Good tunafish. Not great ice cream. Specialty restaurants-Cagneys was great. Le Bistro enjoyed mussels and soup and dessert. Freestyle-Maybe because we were only 2, we didn't have a prob with reservations in specialty rest., like i'm reading others did. I went to desk around 9am on day before and got what I wanted. We took the 50% off to eat at 9:30 but called at 9 and they took us. 2nd time we took the 50% off and missed the show. We liked being able to eat whenever we wanted in dining rm and sitting by ourselves. We usually ate late (8:00 or later) and it was quieter then. Only problem was first formal night with those annoying buzzers so we skipped 2nd formal night altogether. We liked computer screens indicating how busy eating areas were.
Dress-most people were dressed very nicely. Liked that shipped enforced dress code in dining room. Entertainment was comparable to Carnival. Broadway # was good. Jeff Tracta was interesting. His impersonations were great. Sharkbait was silly, esp adult participation game-a lot of work for nada. Ralph Achilles was scary. They could loose the singing Koreans. Prime Time was okay. All in all, we enjoyed our trip. Mostly liked the ship for the freestyle. Don't know if we'd said NCL again. Keep trying to work our way up the scale. Maybe next time.
