My husband and I recently sailed on Infinity with our son and daughter-in-law. It was our eighth cruise with Celebrity, twelfth overall, and our son and daughter-in-law's second cruise, their first being RCI. We loved our first cruise on Summit to Alaska five years ago and were anxious to repeat the experience. We'd raved to them about Celebrity so their expectations were high. My husband and I were celebrating our fortieth wedding anniversary. We'd booked two aft CC cabins, not next to each other, but one cabin apart. This was such fun and convenient and the large aft balconies proved to be a perfect spot to enjoy the majesty of Alaska.

We stayed, pre-cruise, at the Sheraton Wall Center in Vancouver and enjoyed our two days. Since we'd driven our own car we'd reserved a parking spot at Canada Place, unaware that Infinity would be leaving from Ballantyne Pier. This proved to complicate embarkation day for 2 reasons: The pier is very difficult to locate even if you can see the ship and have a map! There are no signs or directions to the ship. Our plan was to drop off the luggage and then drive back to Canada Place and take a cab to the pier. After we finally arrived at the pier and dropped off the luggage, my husband and son left to park the car. Once at Canada Place, it was frustrating finding the proper place to park. No one, absolutely no one, could tell them where they should park, thereby avoiding being towed, even with the reservation in hand. After 30 minutes of exasperation, they finally located a person who directed them to the proper space and then they caught a cab back to Ballantyne. We regrouped and started the check-in process. Security and check-in went smoothly but we did have to wait a few minutes to clear immigration.

Since this was a big anniversary, we'd carefully transported a special bottle of wine to celebrate the occasion. In 1981 we purchased a magnum of 1980 Chateau Montelena Cabernet at the vineyard. With all older bottles it's always a question that it has survived the years. Upon boarding we immediately located the SS United States Sommelier, Boris, and gave him our treasure. We were planning to have dinner there the first night since that was the actual date of our anniversary. Boris promised to have the wine ready and waiting for us.
