First time Liberty (Conquest line) sailing for my family of 4. Previous Sensation/Fantasy class cruises. The Liberty if a far better and bigger ship with plenty of open air, plenty of elevators, and open deck with 22 foot movie screen. Skipping past the usual review comments, let me get to some hidden cruise critic gems: . 1) we were on the Spa deck (floor 11). Let me try to hint at the benefits... If you have kids that go to Camp Carnival, you will be exactly 1 floor under it for quick late night retrieval of kids. How many parents carry sleeping children half way across the ship at late night hours? 2) Rooms are few, with no hallway congestion. 3) While everyone is grabbing an elevator to up to Lido, we were only two floors above with no elevator waiting to go down. 4) They say that the higher up you are, the better the ride -- and you can get no higher. 5) Outside rooms have small windows, Spa has huge side to side, top to bottom windows. What a view? . Freeport - take a tour, the 30 minute cab ride to the straw market is not worth it. We ocean bottom fished. Imagine your thoughts of Bahama fishing and than know that we caught 4 inch fish. Pass on the fishing. . Grand Cayman - two tips: 1) do you pay $30 to $60 to snorkel and then are unhappy with location and 45 to 60 minute time limit? Walk off ship, go right about 1/4 mile to Paradise restaurant (green roof). Rent gear for $12.00 and no time limit snorkeling. Tropical fish are everywhere and 4 foot long tarpon (perhaps 6 or more) are there to welcome snorkelers. A short swim out is an anchored trampoline for kids fun. All this, no time limit, $12.00 each. 2) be aware that prices quoted are VI dollars. We agreed to purchase shoes for $50.00 and were charged $62.50. Vendors try to act surprised when you catch them and are more than happy to take 50 VI dollars which you don't have. $62.50 if paying with US dollars. My 20.00 lunch by menu pricing had this note to my bill, 20 if paying VI, 24.88 if paying US. Know pricing before handing over your card. . Costa Maya - many pay $20 to $50 for beach and pools. Use Costa Maya for this and it is free when you get off the ship. Markets with both discount and expensive places are form in a circle with a huge (free) pool. Great bargains, no taxis, no tours. Great tourist port. . email me at tcoffin1@cfl.rr.com for more info or if this has helped.
