For our 35th anniversary celebration we chose a ten night Baltic cruise on the Star Princess. We chose to make our own flight and pre-cruise hotel bookings for flexibility and cost savings. We ended up taking Lufthansa from Detroit to Frankfurt and Scandinavian Airlines from Frankfurt to Copenhagen. Both airlines worked out well. We left and arrived on-time and with our luggage, which is a rare thing for my wife and I lately.

In Copenhagen, we took the train from the airport to the Central Station downtown. The cost was about $8 U.S. for both of us. We changed some dollars for local currency at an ATM machine conveniently located in the Airport lobby. The trains run about every twenty minutes. After a very short walk from the ticket office we had perhaps a five-minute wait for the train to arrive. The train was clean, fast and the stops are clearly marked. The trip took us less than thirty minutes. From there it was a short two-block walk to the Radisson SAS hotel where we were warmly received. We asked for a corner room facing Tivoli Garden and were pleasantly and quickly accommodated even though we were advised that the hotel was full. The hotel is great and was a reasonable value at about $200./night. Copenhagen is a great city. But bring a lot of money, it's an expensive place to visit. We hit all of the typical tourist sites and made good use of the local "hop on - hop off" bus.

After almost two days in Copenhagen we were ready to board the Star Princess and get some "free" meals. We skipped the Cruise Line transfer and once again opted for the train. We took a quick train ride to Nordhavn Station (about $3.00 each) and walked a quick fifteen minutes from the train station to the ship. The Star Princess is visible from the train station and it's a short trip with good sidewalks most of the way. A number of other passengers made the same choice, some coming from downtown, others coming directly from the airport. A cab ride from the airport to the dock is about $50 plus tip.
