This was my wife's and my 4th cruise (mine all Carnival, she had on on RC). This was our second cruise on the Destiny. We arrived on the day of the cruise from Chicago (weather was agreeable so we made it in plenty of time), otherwise I would recommend arriving the night before, that way the first day is much more relaxing, plus you can board the ship a good 8 hours before leaving port and walk the ship, not too mention you wont be exhausted from the travelling (and you'll need energy if you like excursions). We took a taxi from the airport, very easy process, walked right up to the ship and after a short line in embarkation, we were on. Our bags got there maybe an hour after we did (VERY QUICK). We recommend packing bathing suits on carry ons just in case, you can then at least lay out at the pool. (5 stars for Embarkation-looks like long lines, but they go fast) SHIP: Now on to details of the cruise. The ship the Destiny (Inaugurated in 1996) so it is 11 years old. Saying that, I wish my car looked this good at 11 years old. Well layed out once you know it, you can hit some dead ends trying to get to a restaurant, but thats kind of fun, really shows how big it is. Kept up by the crew it seemed very clean to me and I was pleased with it. Our state room (9190) on the Lido deck was great. Very easy access to the pool and breakfast restaurant. Very common room on Carnival ships (bigger then other cruise lines) and the deck once again was appreciated. Get one...we said the same thing (How often are we going to be in the room?) Well to just sit out there to watch the ocean or coming into port or breakfast (roomservice) is well worth it (GOOD PHOTO OPS). (4 stars for ship appearance and rooms)

FOOD: The food was good. There were a few meals that I would consider either way of great and bad, depending on your taste. Breakfast was of the norm, I don't know what some people are looking for, but eggs, omelets, french toast, bacon, sausage..all part of it. Lunch was a little limited for my tastes, Im a pretty normal person, so I spent the most time with salads or back at the American food stand (burgers, hotdogs, etc) or the 24 hour pizza bar. I didn't go to the international lunch stands (every day is different: French, Greek, Indian, etc..) Dinner was excellent, Ive noticed in the last year they had added stapled to the menu (meaning certain foods available every night, in case you don't like the days menu) Great cut of meat every night (which I had at least 2 of every night..:) ) and deserts were excellent (Creme Brue Le) and the entertainment from the staff was fun to watch (bring a camera or video every night). (4 stars for food)

STAFF: What can I say, they were excellent. From our steward (cant remember his name), but he was very good. Always clean room, ice in the bucket, new towels for excursions), our dining team (Alex and Maynor) were great..knew our norms and our names, very friendly..talk to them!!! Learn a little, its fun...I mean 12 hour days, 7 days a week...wow..Stan the Man our Maitre De, this is the first cruise I actually met the Maitre De, and not only met, but every night!!! Just making sure everything was ok. Waiter, Reynald, knew my name, my dinner drink and my casino drink..thats personal attention. The whole staff was excellent, no complaints) (5+ stars for staff).
