This was our first time on Carnival and cruising the inside passage to Alaska. We were very impressed with our cabin and suite. It was much larger than we anticipated. This ship was nicely decorated and embarkation and disembarkation was efficient and organized. We had a group of 27 with us as we were renewing our wedding vows (as this is our 10th anniversary) and booked a re-newel wedding package with Carnival in early Feb. 2007. They told me I could not book a day for the ceremony as I would have to wait until the first night of the cruise to set up the wedding. I was a little concerned as our group had many shore excursions booked. However, I followed Carnivals directions. Once on board the ship it took many times to find the wedding planner, and when I had, she was very young, inexperienced and said my wedding was low priority due to it only being a re-newel ceremony. I felt quite disheartened as this was the wedding I never had- as my husband and I eloped 10 years ago. We wedding planner has five wedding to prepare on this cruise. It took the wedding planner to 4 days to put the 10 minute ceremony together, 1 hour reception and room bookings. However, it turned out beautifully and the photographer was wonderful. The only other concerns I had with this ship were the shore excursions. We bought the kayaking in Juneau and our kayak cable did not work and we had to be rescued, in the middle of the inlet, with their rescue boat. The operators of this company were not equipped or experienced to handle any emergency and therefore we sat in the little fishing boat, in the pouring rain, waiting for the other kayaker to return. The other shore excursion that was extremely disappointing was the sport Salmon fishing in Ketchikan. This is an expensive excursion and the guide did not provide any water, drinks, or food for the 6 hour fishing trip. As well, the guide didn't relocate the boat to another fishing area after the 3 hour to see if they could catch a bite. They just stayed in one spot the whole 6 hours. No one had a chance to reel in a fish or to even catch a bite. Would I recommend Carnival for the Alaskan inside passage? No. I prefer a more quiet, smaller ship, with more formal customer service. This ship is perfect for families and casual group travel.
