I took my family on a 7 night Eastern Caribbean cruise in July, 2007 on the Disney Magic. We had three family balcony cabins which were terrific and so well suited for the grandkids. We drove to the port and parked immediately adjacent to the terminal. This was a terrific experience, as was the check in process which was seamless. While leaving the port,a passenger slipped and fell in a puddle of water on the top deck and seriously bruised her leg and thigh. An officer was called and took her name. Unfortunately the puddle of water was left unattended and no effort was made to clean it up or rope off the area for at least forty five minutes. One other passenger almost slipped in the same water. Then a crew member appeared and attempted to move the water with a small broom that one would usually see being used to move dust. No mop. Not what I expected from a Disney enterprise. As I said previously, the cabins were exceptional, the attendants superb. One exception was the rust that was prevalent in the overhang of the balcony in each three cabins.A second issue concerning maintenance was when enjoying a casual meal outside on the deck where the buffet was, we sat at an enclosed bubble type area, protected from the wind. To my surprise, on the metal flange of the enclosure there was an area of about two inches by 10 inches where the metal had been entirely eaten away by rust. You could clearly see through the hole. In the interior seating area of the buffet restaurant the furniture was clearly worn, with the finish on the wood chairs worn in many places. I have been on 17 cruises, on old and new ships, and have never seen this much lack of attention to maintenance issues. Quite surprised at Disney, given the expense of their cruises. As to the food, it was outstanding in all venues.Food in the dining room and casual restaurants was outstanding, as was the waiter and his assistant. The only negative was one night when my son ordered room service when one of his children was not feeling well.It never arrived. Being his first cruise, he did not pursue the matter at the time. The childrens' program and activities were spectacular, as were the personnel. I could not say enough good things about this venue. My five grandkids were entertained, occupied and interested at all times. All in all this was a terrific family cruise, enjoyed by all. I was just disappointed at the apparent lack of maintenance while onboard. Other ships are at sea full time and not lacking in these areas.
