Carnival Freedom - Eastern Mediterranean

Cruise Review, Carnival Freedom, May-2007 We were finally doing it! Traveling with another couple, who are our good friends and neighbor to faraway and distant lands that would be filled with rich history and the beauty that only one can truly appreciate in person.

We left on Sunday, Apr. 29, 2007 from Mobile, Al. to Atlanta, Ga., then on to Rome, Italy. The flight was a long 10 hrs, but Delta airlines made it comfortable enough. Arriving in Rome airport Monday morning Apr. 30,2007at 11:00am Rome time, We were picked up By Rome Cabs, which we had previously booked on line, Were taken to our Hotel, Hotel Smuraldo, also pre-booked for one night before the cruise, and 1 night after the cruise. The Airport is about 30 to 45 min. from Rome, and our driver was very helpful with the luggage and provided a tour service as well. After arriving at the hotel and a bit of refreshing up... the driver returned around 2pm and began our 4-hour tour of the city of Rome.... fascinating!!! We More spent the night, the hotel staff was friendly and courteous, the rooms small, but nice and clean. Next day we went on the other half of our tour of Rome then the driver drove us to the port of Civitavecchia where we boarded the ship.

We had booked this cruise July of 2006, so we were able to get upgrade in cabin status and a shipboard credit. The cabin was an inside cabin about amid-ship, on the 7th deck. The service was very good, the dining was excellent, and our assistant waiter was a jewel! The Headwaiter and the cruise director were excellent. The Ship services were very good, although we booked most of our shore excursions on-line. The Shows & most of the entertainment were first class. We enjoyed them very much. The Food on the Lido deck was very good and the specialty restaurant was great!!

We visited a number of ports, which included Rome, Naples, Venice, Florence, Massena, Sicily- Barcelona-Spain, Cannes-France, and Dubrovnik-Croatia. We Did the Amoffi Drive tour in Naples and Pompeii, and the we walked the city wall in Dubrovnik, toured the old city of Florence, and Rome, went on a day with another couple on our own in Barcelona, saw Monaco and Eze in Cannes, rode the buss to Tamorina in Sicily. Disembarkation was very easy and quick, we were in port at 7am at Civitavecchia and on our way to the hotel in Rome 9:30 am, Since we couldn't register before 2pm.the wife and I went exploring and did a little shopping in Rome, we use the mass-transpotration bus system and found enough people who could peak and understand english to help our find what we were looking for.

Later that night at 8pm the Rome cab tour again picked us up, 3 couples and we toured the city at night...a must see experience! Next morning, Sunday May 13,2007, the Rome Cab driver picked us up at 7am, 2 couples, and drove us to the airport. Flight was for 10:15 Rome time, and we were sadly leaving for home...The cruise was...words can't describe But I'll try...wonderful! And the experience of a lifetime. A special thanks to the tour companies that we booked...Amoffi Drive, in Naples, and Rome Cabs in Rome, They are great! Less
