Cabin: Obstructed Oceanview

We recently returned from the April 21 cruise on the Pride of America. We are a mid 50's couple from Canada. Overall it actually exceeded our expectations, which were muted due to some harsh CC posters. I first wanted to add some information in this review which I was unable to find elsewhere.

1. Obstructed oceanview cabins are worth the small increase over inside cabins if you select the right one: Based on the ship's deck plan, we booked cabin 7058. The diagram shows the cabin in a gap between the first small lifeboat and second one, which is larger. The windows are more like patio doors, floor to ceiling, but cannot be opened (our TA was told otherwise). In reality, we had about 1/3 clearance on the right door, mainly due to the pulley and mechanisms, and 2/3 clearance on the left door. When cabin 7056 was open for cleaning, I saw that it had almost no obstruction, so book that one if you have a choice. Furthermore, the port side would offer better view, but I didn't see through those cabins. The cabins on the fourth deck in the same price category have normal size windows, not the full size.

2. Upon boarding I made reservations at the Bistro for the same night, and for Little Italy for the next night. The meal at the Bistro was excellent. DW steak was too rare twice, so the chef personally brought it the third time perfectly done, with apologies, and the cover charges were waived. Dinner at Little Italy was very ordinary in terms of food and service. If you get to sit in the huge booths, the bench seats are very long (up to 4 people on each side) and very far apart for a romantic conversation. The table is placed too far for a comfortable dining posture. I moved to the same side as DW, and the table was moved much closer to us and that solved the problem. The menu is limited. We had the chicken parm served on spaghetti and the only veal dish (called Osso Bocu). Very ordinary. Service was rather lackluster.
