Carnival Valor - Western Caribbean

Sail Date: April 2007
Destination: Western Caribbean
Embarkation: Miami

This was mine and my husbands first cruise so we really didn't know what to expect. We were just really excited to be taking a vacation without the kids! We flew into Miami on Saturday night and stayed at the Hyatt in Downtown. The room was great. We took the metro tram to the Bayside Marketplace for dinner.

Getting on the ship only took us about 45 minutes. Once we were on the ship we were told that our room was not going to be ready for another 2 hours. Everything else on the ship was open, so we decided to have lunch by the pool.

FOOD! WOW! You will never go hungry on this ship! There is a 24-hour pizzeria, a grill (serves hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken sandwiches, fries), a sandwich place, an asian corner, sushi bar, not to mention the buffet! The food is great! We had the late night seating in the lower Lincoln dinning room. We ate there every night. The food is fabulous there and you can order as much as you want!

We had a balcony stateroom off the More back of the ship which was REALLY cool! Plenty of room for storing all of our luggage and the bed was very comfortable. Our steward Henry was great! He always made sure that we had enough towels and ice and he made us cute towel animals every night. The only complaint I have about our room was that we were right above the Eagles Lounge so every night we heard karaoke, which got kind of annoying when we were trying to sleep.

Ports of call. Our first stop was Grand Cayman. This stop we had a tender which means that smaller boats come to the ship and take passengers ashore. We did the 7-mile beach with transport excursion. This was a very nice and relaxing day. One problem with this port is the tender ride back to the ship. Everyone was trying to get back onto the ship at the same time which created a HUGE line. The ship ended up being delayed one hour because people were still trying to get back to the ship.

Our second stop was Isla Roatan Honduras. This was our favorite! We did the Catamaran Sail and Snorkel adventure. We were greeted by our tour guide Alson who was so funny. He gave us a little history of the island on our way to the catamaran. The waters were so clear. It was a very beautiful day. I will definitely be doing this excursion again!

Our third stop was Belize. We did the cave tubing with belizecruiseexcursions.com They were great! The Belize caves are beautiful. The bus ride there and back are a little long, but we got to see a lot of the country so that was nice.

Our last stop was Costa Maya. It was very windy this day and a bunch of water excursions got cancelled. We were lucky because we did the 4X4 Rhino Adventure. This excursion was very neat because you take a 2 passenger rhino and ride next to the beach to a private beach area where you can lay out, relax on a hammock, have lunch, and go swimming in crystal clear waters.

Overall I absolutely loved the Valor. It is such a wonderful ship and the staff is fantastic. The shows are all great too. I will definitely be cruising again on this ship in the near future. Less
