Sail Date: Apr 2007

We are in our late twenties and just completed our first cruise together. Sovereign is an excellent starter cruise because while it's not the most glamorous ship out there, it does have great service and a very pleasant atmosphere.

Cabins- We stayed in an oceanview room on deck 7. Deck 7 was fun because it had the upper level of the theatre and the Latin bar with dancing and music. The room itself was small, but adequate for two people. I really wouldn't want to share the room with more than one other person. The bed had a duvet and nice sheets, but the mattresses were a little firm for my taste. We read in reviews about the sewer smell on this ship and came prepared with an air freshener for the room. Our room never smelled like sewage, but the hallways sometimes did. In fact, there were odd smells all over the ship. Honestly though, it didn't take away from the experience and the ship still seemed very clean and maintained despite her older age.

Entertainment- Very good! The shows were quality and enjoyable, plus there were funny audience participation shows, easy dance classes, art auctions, low-key sports competitions, and interesting demonstrations. The stores had very limited hours, be warned. The cruise director, Mike, onboard this ship was brilliant and hilarious.
