Family of 3 (14 yo son)cruised 4/1 - 4/8 out of Galveston. Flew into Dallas (personal reasons) and did 1 way car rental with Hertz; no problem dropping it off Sunday morning in Galveston and husband cabbed it back to ship. Stayed in Clear Lake area night before in the Towneplace Suites (2BR - $122). Was kind of old and run down, people running it were very nice though. We found the Clear Lake area very congested. Boarding ship was quick; on by 11:45, room ready by 1 pm. Ship was in fantastic shape for being 10 years old. Did miss the extras that the newer ships have. Our inside room was smaller than interior rooms on Princess or Voyager class. TV was 13" and had limited English stations, no pay movies. Extremely limited storage in the cabin. Stateroom attendant was nice but not very thorough (rings from drinks on the furniture.) New bedding is really great. 2 straight sea days was tough as the ship was full and it felt cramped. Did not seem like there were many activities and those they did have were in the smoke-filled Schooner bar. Our family has sailed 2 other spring breaks, Christmas break and twice in the summer and we have NEVER felt like there were so many kids on a cruise - I think it may have been because the ship was smaller and because the prices on this ship tend to be lower which probably encourages families. This really only bothered us after 11 pm into the wee hours as many ran down the halls. Food was really good in the dining room, so so in the Windjammer and hardly acceptable in the Solarium. Dining staff was very good. Cruise director was excellent, the others were lame and gave off the vibe they didn't really like their job. Definitely had communication difficulties with what were probably some of the newer staff hired for the Far East sailings. Surprised at the make-up of the passengers - seemed like 40-45% were Spanish speaking which is fine but was surprised as there were more than on a prior cruise we sailed out of Puerto Rico. As for entertainment, only watched the comedians - they were really funny. We think RCCL has the best comedians. Have sailed western caribbean before so did not do any organized excursions. LOVED the fact we got to dock in Cozumel!!!!!!! Disembarkation seemed a bit slow; RCCL transfers had sold out so we had to hire a limo service (Enterprise & Hertz were closed on Easter Sunday)so we didn't disembark until around 9:30 but limo was prompt and we made it to IAH by 11 in more than enough time to bump up to a 12:20 flight. Plenty of time for people to catch noon hour flights. Price was quite low for this 7 night sailing so we feel we received a good value but if faced with paying full price would stick with the newer larger ships.
