Embarkation was smooth, departure on time. Ports of call: Cozumel, Belize City, Roaton (island off Honduras) and Costa Maya. Weather was terrific--low 80s and no storms. Smooth water. Many in our group took self- directed Jeep tours in Cozumel and Belize. They thoroughly enjoyed the freedom and loved the snorkeling. On Roaton, several did SCUBA as well as snorkeling. At Belize City, some took the trolley city tour--easy and informative. At Costa Maya, some did the Dolphin experience--really good.

We had cruised on the Dawn before--and although we were told that there had been an updating, it is showing its age. However, public rooms were really well maintained, entertainment was about what was expected. The crew is very friendly and helpful. We had one special event dinner to celebrate a birthday at Cagney's. It was handled well--but you need to book something like this prior to departure in order to make sure you will get the date and time you want. Food was great at Cagney's. The two main restaurants have the same menu, just a difference of atmosphere. Service was good, but noisy in both restaurants. Food in the buffet (Cafe) is similar to that served in restaurants, but self serve. However, on the night before return to New Orleans, the buffet served Prime Rib--it was absolutely the BEST I've ever eaten. You truly could cut it with your fork!!

Cabin Review

Mid-Ship Mini-Suite with Balcony

Cabin MA

This cabin is ok for 3 people--but there is a lack of storage space and closet space. There is a small table in the area set aside for the 3rd person, but it is wedged in, and it is nearly impossible to get the second chair out. With the sleep sofa opened, you cannot get around well. The balcony has only two chairs and a small table--sufficient but just barely. The bathroom is ok, large enough, but not much space for usual things like tooth brushes and paste for three people. But you make do. Closet is limited to about 20 hangers--if you have 3 adults, you will probably need a few more than that. Shelf storage is at a premium. There is a privacy curtain between the main sleeping area and the sleep sofa area--keeps out light and some sounds. The cabin steward was very good about keeping us in towels and other necessities. The comfort of the sleep sofa is only so-so. But it was only for a week, and we had fun.
