Sailed on the 3/19 cruise out of Fort Lauderdale. There was a hole in the hull which required an 8 hour delay prior to leaving the port. That means the shops and the casino closed till after midnight. When I go on vacation I want to leave not hang in an ugly port like Port Everglades. Then on our last night we were sequestered to our cabins for 2 hours when a passenger jumped overboard. We were told to be quiet as they searched for the body. Quite upsetting to the many children on board. In between we went to Cozumel and spent the day at a nice beach club. We watched the uncaring passengers walk to the gangway 40 minutes after boarding time of 5:30pm. The days at sea were filled with flowing alcohol from the many passengers who purchased the drink packages. It is amazing the amounts of alcohol that people can consume and the amount of food people can eat. The solarium was filled with people in their 20's playing beer pong and screaming. The food on this ship was typical RCCL fare. I expect the food to be mediocre and was not let down. Chops not has the double upgrade special. $35 to get in and $19 more for a fresh steak. Service was slow and the food was also fair. If you really want a good steak spend the extra $19. RCCL should just raise the price and only serve the better steaks as the standard ones on the menu are terrible. My time dining worked out well and the service was very good. The dinner menu remains the same on this ship as any other ship on RCCL. Diamond lounge was typical of every RCCL ship with the same assortment of appetizers. The Balcony cabin we had was decent with no surprises. A/C worked and kept the room cool at night. Only saw our stateroom attendant once the whole trip. The spa was nice and the massage was pretty good for a cruise ship. Fitness center was very adequate though some of the treadmills were out of order. Locker rooms were adequate. Johnny Rockets had better service than others I have been too. Food better than the retched Windjammer where passengers take food with their bare hands. Lunch options lacking after 1 pm on the Freedom ships as compared to the Oasis ships. The casino was pretty busy and the tables were active for the 2 nights it was fully open. You might think I am ragging on this cruise but I am a Diamond Plus member on RCCL and it seems to me that RCCL caters to the first time cruisers more than the loyalist cruisers. What I mean is the activities and menus is unique for the first time cruiser but after 20+ cruises of looking at the same menu, same activities, same gifts, same food it gets a bit boring.
Typical 184 square foot balcony cabin. Bed comfortable. Flat Screen TV.
