This was our first cruise on Holland America and our expectations were admittedly high. The Noordam was great, we loved it. Our cabin was nice and decently appointed, except that they don't have CNN. (Why not?)The public areas are comfortable, nicely and tastfully done and offer a cozy atmosphere. The buffets are well laid out in a manner that makes them accessible, yet uncrowded. The main dining room is elegant and the two premium dining options, Pinnacle Grill and Canalettos, are well worth the few extra bucks. However, we were dissapointed in the lack of good quality cuts of meat and total lack of fresh seafood. There is no carvery where fresh cuts of beef, ham or lamb are served, and I was told by the Culinary Director himself that Holland America does NOT server fresh seafood. How unfortunate. During the course of the cruise we spoke with numerous other passengers, many who had sailed many cruises on Holland America ships, and almost all deemed this ship's food less than expected as compared to other Holland America Ships. Again, not my words, theirs.

All the above having been said, the cruise and ports of call were fun and the good memories made are many. We highly recommend the cruise and the ship, but set your expectations low in the quality and variety of food department.

Cabin Review

Deluxe Ocean-View Verandah Stateroom

It was a nice size cabin with a large balcony with a lounge, a chair and small table. The room was slightly on the stuffy side, but not uncomfortable. Our room stewards took great care of us. The closets offer ample room - luggage is stowed under the bed. The wash room is small, tidy and very effienctly laid out with dispensers of shower gel, shampoo and conditioner on the wall. Our major dissapointment was no CNN on TV.
