She is an older ship and needs a lot of updating. Our first indication was at muster drill in the crown grille restaurant. The AC vents had a thick layer of dust on them. Water leaked from the ceiling. Ceiling tiles were bent in places. Paint was peeling in places. Our cabin's refrigerator was dirty, duvet cover looked dingy, and there was trash out on the balcony. Our first meal was at Alfredo's Pizza, and all I could see was dirty windows and some rust outside the window I could see. Not a good first impression. Throughout the cruise I found other rust, more dirty windows, and metal missing in places it should have been.

Weather is not Princess' fault--it was overcast most of the cruise, including Hawai`i. I have never had rain in Lahaina, Maui, but in this trip I did. Oh well. Can't beat Mother Nature. Seas averaged from slight to 8.2 feet, not bad for a transpacific cruise.

Excursions were really nice. Hilo (Big Island)--We went to Kaimu black sand beach from the 1983 lava flow, a hot spring fed lagoon, and lava tree state park. Seeing the new growth on the lava flow and feeling new black sand between the toes was incredible. And I was the only one on the tour to wear flip flops (slippahs) and take them off. Oahu--We cancelled our ship tour because Queen Emma's Summer Palace was under renovation. We walked to `Iolani Palace and had a great tour. Took the bus to Koa Pancake House for macadamia nut pancakes, and then to the Navy Exchange for great deals. On Kaua`i we did the movie tour and saw the old Coco palms Resort in ruins. Sad. Hanalei Bay was nice as well, and the beach where Gilligan's boat was shot marooned. Only barefoot person there too! In Maui we did the beach break, but with overcast skies and trade winds blowing turned into a shopping break. Also, the tour met on the pier, and this being a tender port, you needed to make enough time to get there. Well, some people didn't, and we ended up losing time on the beach. We anchored at 0800, so there was ample time to get a tender. Tours should leave on time, period.

Avoid if you don't like noise. The luggage delivery door is right across from your front door. So for 2 nights it can be noisy. As stated, trash on balcony, refigertor dirty.
