Just off the Regal Princess and had a wonderful time. We have not cruised extensively so maybe some of my comments are too specific, but thought I'd comment anyway since I've been asked so many questions about the Regal. The biggest disappointment for us was the Promenade Deck or lack thereof really. If you are the type of person that enjoys a Promenade Deck around the ship with great views of the sea while you are walking, you will be disappointed. There is a Promenade Deck but it does not go all the way around the ship or even partially around it. You can walk along the middle of the port side and then go inside and cross over to the starboard side to walk down that side of the ship. Much of the walk is a single file walkway behind the lifeboats. At each end of the walkway, the deck sort of opens up to normal size where there are no lifeboats. On one end there were 12 wicker type chairs and on the other end there were 12 wooden loungers with pads. The part of the deck that is wider here is pretty small as you can see, since it only will handle the 12 chairs. YES I KNOW that there is a track up on the 16th deck. It is a nice place to walk at certain times, I suppose. On 4 of our 7 days it was literally so windy up there that the chairs were blowing around. There is basically no shade or any protection from the wind or rain up there either. I also know that there is a treadmill in the gym, but I can go to the gym at home. If you don't mind any of those things, you will not be bothered by this. Things that were new to us and helpful include the Princess@Sea messenger. You could keep up with the daily schedule there and also send messages to fellow passengers about daily plans. It was a great new thing for us and those who want to carry around their phone. There are digital frames by every elevator. They missed the boat (no pun intended) for using those effectively for the most part. It would be so helpful to have the daily schedule there in addition to the menu for the Dining Rooms. Mostly it was used for advertisements ("cameras on sale today" etc.), but it was used one time on a port day when the back to the ship time changed - the new time was posted on the digital frame board and that was helpful and what I call a good use for the board. The entertainment was excellent. In the past, I have considered the entertainment as okay to good, but was pleasantly surprised. I was also very appreciative of the "family" atmosphere. Some shows were marked as being PG-13 (although some may have been a little closer to R rating in my opinion, but these were clearly marked in the Patter. The ones not marked were considered to be G rating, and I found them to be so. A pleasant surprise not to have a raunchy style comedian (my personal opinion) during the family time. I still find that the Dining options do not include much for the diabetic or low-carb lifestyle type of eating. Although you can "build" a pretty decent meal by picking and choosing carefully - the dessert options were very lacking. Most of the sugar-free options were some kind of sugar-free cake which of course is not low-carb at all. If you can eat anything, you will have an abundance of choices. If you are trying to eat low-carb, there isn't much to choose from on most days. I would've been happy to even have a choice of flavored gelatin with whipped cream (sugar-free) on some days, just to be able to have something to enjoy while my family/friends ate their desserts. Although we ate primarily in the MDR, we found the newly designed Buffet area to be a big improvement. There are many options and they are mostly organized by type of food (Mexican dishes together in one area, Chinese dishes in another, etc). The area is expanded by having some additional seating in the back which is outdoors in a covered area. Very nice addition. The service in the buffet has changed somewhat in that they have the waiters bring/refill your beverages. I found the service hit or miss in that regard. When we found an area with a good server, we aimed for that area again on other days. You can still get your own beverages and refills but there it is less convenient to do that with the new layout depending on where you choose to sit. Overall it was a great trip and we will cruise on Princess again, but will probably look for a ship with a true Promenade Deck and hope for more low-carb options in the future.
