Haiti – as the comedian said, how do we really know we are in Haiti? The only telltale sign was when we first docked there were guys in rowboats “begging” below outside the balconies. I saw a couple people throw things over – maybe water bottles? That was rather strange since they were so far below. It was an island and they had “local vendors” selling their wares so when you walked by they started harassing you to come look at their stuff. The island was pretty and several beaches to select from. On one side it was wavier so we picked the calm beach. The water was so cloudy and murky you couldn’t snorkel - which was disappointing. The lunch on the island which is hauled off the ship and set up there was just okay. Yes it was outside so yes there were flies all over like some had complained about. They were out of some of the desserts by the time we got there around 1:00 to eat. Had hotdogs, ribs, hamburgers to eat and a variety of salad and fruit. Not bad. It would be easy to run back to the ship to eat if you wanted. We had a drink package and it worked on the island at the bars and the labadoozie was pretty tasty and the only frozen option here. You had chair attendants greeting you at the beaches and setting up your chairs for a tip. Many options in the shade. Overall nice restful stop to play on the beach.

We decided to go with Jaital directly and not with the ship because it appeared to have good reviews and maybe a bit smaller than the other companies so thought more personal. I was wrong. We were greeted at the taxi stand just as stated and easy to find. We got in the car and he immediately said it will be $242 and the voucher, I said, I don’t know anything about a voucher and he said okay then it’s $342. (what’s this voucher??) Our guide had music playing and I was in the back so missed anything he was saying and finally we asked him to turn the music off. It was a pretty long drive to Dunn River Falls and enjoyed seeing the scenery. When we got there we asked if we should take all of our belongings and he said you can take with you ya mon. So we did and then had to buy a locker to put them in. I wish he would have said, you can leave them in the car! He went and bought all of our passes to get in and I noticed that my son who was 10 had a cheaper price (it’s written right on the passes). I asked him why I paid the same price for a 10 year old as I did the adults when it’s obviously cheaper – he told me to take it up with the company. The driver also tried to get my Dad’s ID to prove he was a senior to get a cheaper rate – which the driver or the company obviously keep! He then told us to hurry and climb the falls so we can move on to the river tubing. Uh – ok. At the falls they remind you about tipping your guide and the guide actually said to each person – don’t forget to treat me right ya mon. Then he followed us to the locker to make sure. We completed that and it was about 1:30. I read on reviews about bringing money for great lunch at a local place. Getting back into the car I said isn’t it time to eat? Our guide ignored me without offering to take us anywhere. This was a 6 hour tour and no offering of lunch or stopping. My husband did ask about wanting a Red Stripe before we began the tubing portion of the trip. Guide stopped and asked for $20 for three beers. I said I don’t want a bunch of Jamaican money we can’t spend – No worries Mon, I’ll get you change. He came back to car with gum for him and our beers and a wad of Jamaican money as change. We got to the tubing place which was a little scary. It appeared to be like a stream of water in between the grassy sides. I pictured leaches and things that could swim up in you!! We finally got there and got suited up and assigned two guides to help us down the river. It took about an hour and was a lazy man’s float trip where we held on to each other and they pushed and navigated us through the little rapids and away from the bank. It was better than I expected and our two guides were great and had to work and swim along with us. They worked harder than our guide at the falls for sure. But its more tips so to take this trip bring money for the falls guide, the river guides and your driver But since your skipping a meal that day you can use that money! I told our driver we needed to be back by 6:00 to the pier. He suggested we get back at 5:00 to be safe. I got the feeling he had somewhere to go that night between telling us to hurry at the falls, skipping a lunch and getting us back early to the pier. I probably wouldn’t recommend this tour company to others based on our experience. It’s an awful lot of car time and shade time for such a beautiful island.

My family and I selected The Sunscape Sabor Cozumel resort for a day pass while stopping in Cozumel on Thanksgiving day. We had 5 so took a larger cab and it was $22 there and $20 back. Check in was friendly and easy enough. The resort was pretty small and boasted a lot of water (non motorized) activities is the reason we selected it. Unfortunately the weather was windy and the water choppy so they had no activities going on. The beach was nice where you could walk a long direction in front of other resorts with a pier next door you could walk out on. They had chairs and umbrellas on the beach you could get with no extra charge. The open bar was easy to get a drink from but I think I was just getting full from the cheap mixer and ice in a blender. I never did taste any alcohol or feel any of the alcohol after drinking several. And they weren't very tasty - like I said a cheap mixer and ice. The snack bar at the pool had decent onion rings and great nachos and the highlight of the place was them preparing Paella right there at the pool over a grill. We opted for a later lunch and snacked here. We walked down to the buffet a bit later for lunch and once they ran out of an item they did not replace anything. The food was really really bad. I would have cried to be stuck there at this resort for days and having to face that food. Staff friendly, beach nice but that's about all you can expect here. It was one of the cheaper day options at $50 for adults and $25 for kids. I wouldn't return here.

PERFECT location. right by the elevators (never heard noises) and on the 12th floor so super close to everything. The cabin was a bit small with little drawer and storage area. We had three in there and the steward would pull out the couch at night and put up in the morning. There was little to no walking room when it was pulled out. Liked the shower and bathroom – there is only soap and some general shampoo in the shower.

There were plenty of bars and after the pool level closed it was really easy to find bars on every floor and while many weren’t crowded there was only one or two bartenders and they were S L O W.The dining room had great selections every night and we ate there every night but one where we had vouchers for a specialty restaurant and we picked Chops.
