This is not a river cruise. The ship is used as your hotel and you are bused practically everything. It is also not a Wine Tour. In 7 days there were 3 wine tastings. The first one at Chateaux Lalond was excellent and the last at Sauterne was very well done and educational. The one on board was pathetic.
The tours were a mixed bag. The tour director seemed totally disengaged and never joined us on the local tours which varied greatly in quality. Sometimes it was not the guide's fault, there just wasn't that much to see. The free tours on 3 of the days were less than 2 hours long. The Arcachon tour was wonderful, but we paid an extra $2000 for the 4 of us to go.
The ship is lovely, immaculate, very nice housekeeping staff and the food is good with free flowing wine at dinner. We paid extra for a balcony and were parked next to another boat at least half the nights, so close that I could touch it. No view at all. We really only cruised on the last day coming back into Bordeaux. That was lovely and reminded me of why I like river cruising.
Cabins are very well appointed but tiny, tiny.
