As with other recent reviewers, a bit concerned based on previous negative reviews on this ship, but pressed ahead with booking. Not sure what some people expected, but our experience was awesome (and yes, the Wife and I have cruised before).

Embarkation was relatively painless and we even spotted our suitcases in the passageway on the way to our cabin for an easy pick-up. Right from the start the AMERICAN crew was friendly and helpful. Not being jingoistic, I just noticed previous reviewers seemed to demand foreign crew members who they seemingly expect to wait on them hand and foot. I enjoyed talking rock music with a crew member Asbury Park NJ , meeting a fellow Miami Hurricane fan crewman, discussing the environs of Atlanta with another, discussing Luzon in the Philippines with another, and talking all about NYC with a host of crew from there. The American crew made the cruise MORE enjoyable...Even our slightly cocky (you would be to if you had the best job in the entire US Merchant Marine!) American Master, Captain Ron (Yes, "Captain Ron") was very active on the PA. Special mention goes out to the onboard Cruise/Port Consultant, Lauren Epstein. Lauren really suceeds at making you feel special while aboard an ashore; NCL is lucky to have her!

Because this is a US-flagged ship, you don't go to Vancouver or Mexico, just to the other main Hawaiian islands, a HUGE plus. From a beautiful beach in Maui, to flying over waterfalls in Kauai, to a Chocolate orchard/factory on The Big Island, it was a truly memorable journey and the Pride of America was a great way to get to it all.

Cabin Review

Large Balcony

Great views from this cabin! Be advised, you are forward, even with the side hull plating, and over the bow thrusters. If you love watching/feeling ship operations like I do, it's great. If you don't like some pitching, noise and vibration from the thrusters and being close to the theater noise, you may not like it.
